CLASS RECAP: STEREO MICS + SIGNAL FLOW

Another hands-on day at Patchwerk Finishing School!

This session focused on stereo miking techniques and understanding how to properly route signal through the console from the patchbay to the microphones and headphones.

Students worked through:

✅ Stereo microphone techniques
✅ Patchbay routing
✅ Getting signal to headphones
✅ Direct output & signal routing
✅ Understanding the complete signal path

This is where classroom knowledge meets real-world studio experience.

Learn the signal. Understand the flow. Master the room.

Ready to take your audio engineering skills to the next level?Applications are now open. Link in our bio.

From patching microphones into Pro Tools and working with outboard gear, to routing channels through the SSL and comparing the sound of the U87 and U149, they were learning by doing.

And the best part? They got to see a real session unfold inside the booth and watch the engineering process happen in real time.

This is more than learning equipment.

It’s learning signal flow, sound, workflow, decision-making and how to move inside a professional studio environment.

This past Saturday, class was all about getting hands-on with the recording process. Our students went beyond the classroom and stepped into a real-world tracking environment at Patchwerk Studios.

Here’s what they explored:

🎚How to patch microphones directly into Pro Tools
🎚How to incorporate outboard gear into the signal chain
🎚Understanding the sonic differences between microphones like the Neumann U87 and U149
🎚Learning how channels are split through the SSL console
🎚Understanding what a professional tracking session actually looks like from setup to execution
🎚Watching the engineer work through a live session and make mixing decisions in real time

This is what hands-on audio engineering education looks like.

Our students aren’t just learning what the equipment does, they’re learning how to think, listen, troubleshoot, and operate in a professional studio environment.

Class 2: CHECK. ✅
More knowledge. More experience. More confidence.

Getting hands-on with the patch bay 🎚️

The students had to put their knowledge to werk, routing signal from the microphone to the headphones and making sure everything was connected and working properly.

They caught on FAST! 🔥

🎚️ TODAY’S CLASS WAS PUT TO THE TEST!

Today, our students learned how to route signal to the microphone and headphones using the patch bay and WOW, they moved FAST! 👏🏽

They picked it up, understood the signal flow, and were immediately put to the test with hands-on practice.

Great job, guys! This is what hands-on learning looks like!

ORIENTATION DAY | SEPTEMBER COHORT 2026🎚️

Today we officially welcomed our newest group of talented audio engineers to the Patchwerk Finishing School!

We’re so excited to begin this session and watch these engineers grow, sharpen their skills, expand their knowledge, and prepare to take their careers to the next level.

The Finishing School is about more than learning how to operate a console, it’s about bridging the gap between what you’ve learned in college and what actually happens in a real commercial recording studio.

New month. New cohort. New engineers ready to WERK💪🏽

Welcome to the Patchwerk family! 🧡 @dashaware.co
