What an amazing night at the @jonathanclub as they hosted the annual @hopestreetfamilycenter silent auction and raised $340k in less than an hour. Yours truly donated money and WON 1 of the 5 items that I had put a bid in. This was my first masquerade party and it was a blast. Thanks @chefmichelle_and_company for the invite.

I’ve been very open about how difficult the last 8 years have been for me as a Chef. From surviving a toxic work environment, then Covid, the rise of the “Chefluencer” pricing us out because they make money off their content & just leverage off of the high profile clients for clout instead of a living wage, substance abuse, to our value also being dropped by meals delivered from high end restaurants, the fires knocking out 80% of our clients, the world pretty much being a dumpster fire, ICE making it ridiculously difficult for restaurants to keep their reliable staff feeling safe, the price of food from inflation, the cost of fuel, the low rise of minimum wage & the loss of farm workers to it ALL combining with less people going out to eat…my industry has been impacted mentally BIG time. Yesterday I had the honor to attend @oui.fb’s summer kickoff party thanks to my dear friend @kriskracks, Oui Gather was hosted @rowdtla by Oui F&B, a volunteer-led org supporting the mental health & well-being of food & beverage professionals & @letsgatherforgood, a nonprofit org that harnesses the power of people in the food industry chefs, farmers, purveyors & business owners, to make a positive impact in our communities through events, fundraisers & charitable food programs. I got some much needed vitamin D, ate delicious foods especially from one of my Chef heroes Chef Chris Bianco of the iconic @pizzeriabianco (widely known as the best pizza in 🇺🇸) with dear friends & new ones. FUCK INDUSTRIES THAT DON’T CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE! I GROW TIRED OF WEARING MY SCARS LIKE A BADGE OF HONOR. ACKNOWLEDGING AND FACING THE FACT THAT WORKING IN KITCHENS AND CONSTANTLY STANDING UP FOR MYSELF AND BEING A HUMAN IN AMERICA HAS ME FUCKED UP AND CHRONIC PAIN IS CHRONIC AND NOT THE GOOD KIND!!! UGH!!! I’m proud to be working on myself, healing still hurts though… Does that hit a nerve? @suppingood and @kriskracks have started something a few years back to help commune and dispel the idea that you are and have to figure it out by yourself. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! It does suck!!! Let’s talk about it. I’ll be back the ROWDTLA 6/29 for the OUI GATHER SUMMER KICK OFF. THERE WILL BE CAKE!!! Catered towards mental health care advocacy for my food and hospitality peoples but open to everyone. Who takes care of the people who take care of you?
