July’s Hip Hop in the Park was just so special. 🥹🫶🏾 Despite the rain and unpredictable KY weather, we gathered at Alberta O. Jones Park anyway. And in the spirit of resistance, we held space!!!

We danced. We laughed. We fellowshipped. We materially supported businesses in our community. We witnessed the incredible artistry and talent that lives right here among us. But more than anything, we chose to stay together.

We know the battles we’re facing. We know how easy it would have been to stay home or call it off. But there is something so powerful about resisting the very things that tell us not to gather, not to dream, not to build with one another and doing it ANYWAY.

Thankkkkk youuuu to everyone who stayed down with us. Y’all reaffirmed that Hip Hop in the Park is here to STAY.

Every month, we’re building something bigger than an event we’re building our own world, a world where we resist. A world where we create. A world where we are FREE. ♥️🖤💚

As we head into our final Hip Hop in the Park of the 2026 season on August 29th we invite you to be part of it. Come through & bring a friend. “Godfather of the Louisville Rave & Nightclub scene since 1979” and owner of one of the only black-owned record stores in the country — there are less than 40. You might see BENMAN on the mic or on the turntables but when you do see him, you will have a wonderful time. BENMAN is a Louisville legend and we are so excited to have him give a special digest dj set & lesson at our first Open Decks: Beatmatching Workshop!

This past weekend I had the honor of joining @russellplaceofpromise for to celebrate the 5th anniversary of RPOP 🥳✨

RPOP’s Homecoming was a whole weekend of events filled with performances, panel discussions, vendors, to even getting out in the neighborhood to run hunny!!🏃🏾‍♀️ ✨

Thank you Russell Place of Promise for getting the community together and outside to celebrate all the wonderful things that have been happening in and around the Russell community!! I love my neighborhood 🥰

This Friday, we’re celebrating Black music from the past, present, and future with a talented lineup of performers, vendors, food by @jamminsmokehouse and DJ @cooplemoderne at the historic Russell Theatre with @russellplaceofpromise Russell Neighborhood Homecoming!!

Inspired by the legendary Idle Hour, a popular spot where Black musicians from across the country performed during the 1920’s–60s, right here in the Russell Neighborhood.

We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, who built platforms, made space, and fought to keep the music alive. And now it’s up to us to keep it going. We got Friday night plans. RSVP at the link in our bio!! See ya there. 🫶🏾
