“Should I push off a little more when running?” 🏃‍♂️

My answer? YES… and NO. 👀

✅ YES — We need to apply force against the ground to propel ourselves forward.

❌ NO — That doesn’t mean exaggerating your push-off or bounding with every stride, especially at an easy pace.

Think of a treadmill. The belt moves backward underneath you.

Now flip the concept: YOU are the treadmill. ⚡️

Instead of reaching forward with every step, think about applying force backward against the ground to propel yourself forward.

The goal? Efficient ground contact, a smooth rhythm and forward propulsion without unnecessary vertical bouncing.

Don’t just run harder. Learn to run smarter. 🧠⚡️

Are excited to use this cue in your next run?

100 runners in 48 hours. Rotterdam, you showed up. 🏃‍♂️🔥

I honestly can’t believe it. The form went live two days ago and the love has been unreal. Thank you so much, all of you.

This is going to be the biggest run + networking event Rotterdam has ever seen. My partners: @zone2, @roffaruns, @levels.run @groupaway.nl @asahnl and I can’t wait to meet you.

Bring the energy. Bring the vibes. Bring your running shoes. 👟

Ive been running for a bit solo dolo. It has helped calm my mind and it really helps my ADHD but there is something about a real tribe. I’ll keep running alone but join once a week if u want to feel the energy. Big shoutout to @ali_forain for the energy u have put in 🫡🌟💗 and thanks to @viccaptures & @amymiyu for the invite 🏃🏿🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️💨 (that looks more like a fart lol)

Running makes you a better doctor.

Or at least, it makes you better at becoming one.

Running forces you to practise a kind of discipline you’ll need for a medical career too: committing to seemingly larger-than-life goals, showing up when it gets hard, and trusting that the small things you do repeatedly will eventually add up to something much bigger than you imagined.

A couple of years ago, I ran my first 10K in Rotterdam to usher in my first week as a newly graduated doctor. This week, I’m moving to London to start my first job in the UK as an international medical graduate. The Shoreditch Half Marathon will mark the start of my first week as an IMG. 🇬🇧

I couldn’t think of a better person to run it with than @nataliesimon20. As Neurosurgical Clinical Research Fellows, we see first-hand how neurological conditions affect patients and their families. It therefore feels particularly meaningful to use this occasion to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. I’m also channelling my birthday and farewell gifts towards the fundraiser. If you’d like to contribute, there’s a link in my bio. Every donation is very gratefully received. 🧡

So here are the @strava's that got me to the start line: a little record of discipline and commitment. Not just to running, but to becoming a better doctor.

The next big milestone will be a full marathon. Very excited to find out what career milestone that one will commemorate. 👀 #halfmarathon #runningdoctor #neurosurgery #internationalmedicalgraduate #nhs 📸: @willshoots.jpeg
