THANK YOU to our incredibly supportive creative community, donors, alumni, students, faculty, media and PSU friends who came out to help us celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the gorgeous new home of the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design last week. It was *the place to be* that night! Every corner of the building buzzed with the school's signature creative energy, with music and performance art, hands-on art activities, interactive games, emerging tech demonstrations, food and drink and so much more. Even though the party is over, the fun is just beginning! Dozens of creative events, workshops, art talks, and exhibitions and showcases are happening in the new building, and you're invited! Check the link in our bio for upcoming art events.

See you on the pink stairs!

The shadow play caught my eye first. Folded, perforated steel casting another layer of rhythm and texture across the wall below.

Then you notice the details. Tight, tidy, and deliberate—qualities I’ve come to associate with LEVER’s work. I especially appreciate how clean the surfaces beneath the weathering steel appear, without the rust staining you might expect.

Over the last two years during the construction of the new Art Building on PSU's campus, Leroy Bynum, Jr., Dean of the College of the Arts, stopped by on a regular basis to take a selfie in front of the building as it went up.

The beautiful metal-clad mass-timber building is finally finished and full of students, faculty and staff in the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design. We love the new building almost as much as Dean Bynum does!

A historic day for PSU — and an exciting future for the arts in Portland.

Yesterday, we celebrated the opening of the new home for the Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design, a milestone years in the making. It was a joy to see students, artists, supporters and neighbors come together to explore a space filled with creative possibility.

Thank you to the Jordan Schnitzer and the Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation, LEVER Architecture and Swinerton for the generosity, collaboration and vision that helped bring this new home to life. We were honored to celebrate alongside Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and PSU President Ann Cudd, whose leadership and support help champion the arts and education in our community.

Here’s to the art yet to be made, the voices yet to be heard and the ideas that will shape Portland’s creative future.

The new building will serve as a welcoming space for the greater Portland art community to witness all the groundbreaking work that PSU students are creating.

Attend the grand opening on Tuesday Oct 13, 4-8pm!

October is Careers in Construction Month - a reminder that every finished space begins with people who know how to plan, coordinate, build, and solve problems.

At Crossover Construction, we’re proud to be a minority-owned general contractor and concrete company serving Portland and the Willamette Valley.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing the work behind the work - from concrete and pre-construction to project delivery, safety, inclusion, and the partnerships that keep projects moving.

Construction offers opportunities to learn, grow, develop valuable skills, and help shape the places our communities use every day.

Follow along this month as we take you behind the work.

Concrete is one of the most visible parts of what we do, but the work behind a successful pour starts long before the truck arrives.

Scheduling, site preparation, materials, equipment, coordination, and skilled craftsmanship all have to come together.

The pour is only one part of the process.

Before work begins in the field, there is a lot happening behind the scenes.

Plans are reviewed. Details are coordinated. Schedules are developed. Costs are considered. Potential problems are identified before they become jobsite problems.

Good construction starts with good preparation.

Once construction begins, plans meet real-world conditions.

Crews, superintendents, project managers, and trade partners work together to coordinate the moving pieces, solve problems, and keep the project progressing safely.

Every day brings something new to solve.

Getting a project across the finish line takes more than completing the physical work.

It takes coordination, communication, quality control, accountability, and a commitment to delivering what was promised.

The goal is more than getting it done. It’s getting it done right.

Every project becomes part of something bigger — a workplace, a home, a gathering space, a neighborhood, or a community.

Construction careers give people the opportunity to develop skills, build experience, solve real problems, and contribute to the places where
