2025 was one of the best years of my life!

Last year provided me with both personal and professional growth. I was fortunate enough to receive some cool opportunities, meet many talented artists, and form new friendships.

Happy new year 🥳

Previewing some of the incredible artworks featured in the Dualities First Friday exhibitions curated by Geoff Paulline (@geofffferson ) & Lauren Pesta (@laurenpesta.artist ) opening this Friday from 5-8pm!

Artists were encouraged to apply in duos, highlighting the creativity that emerges when artists from different mediums collaborate. From bold material contrasts to conceptual pairings that spark conversation, each piece offers its own interpretation of tension, balance, and connection.

Featured in this preview:
Jacquline Fabritz’s Nobody Wants My Stuff and Diane Mussell’s Fresh Breeze both reflect on the past while contrasting in color palette, medium, and style.

Samantha Golbuff’s The “Jewelry” Dress and Veronique Umelo’s SMILE bring bits and pieces together in unexpected ways, exploring form, texture, and what it means to be whole.

In Veiled Passages, Jay Griffith and Jennifer Lee pair a rigid background with a flowing veil of ceramic discs, creating a balanced dialogue between structure and movement.

Jim and Sue Heemstra’s Stack Sculpture and Untitled reflect the energy of their shared studio practice, with each work speaking its own distinct visual language.

Nick Lapole’s I Wish I Could See God and Casandra Tant’s I Thought I Saw a Flower reveal familiar places made new through hidden details and quiet moments of discovery.

Devin Zapada’s & Maryann Jones’s Scorpion collide sci-fi and fashion, shadow and light, finding harmony in unexpected contrasts.

Join us this Friday to learn more about these explorations of duality, and for an evening filled with open studios, live music, immersive art experiences, and exhibitions across the building — including a special showcase by CASA (@creative_artists_studio_ames) on the 3rd Floor. See you at Mainframe for a night of creativity and community!

Congratulations to all of the Dualities Artists! Check out the full list of artists on our story!

My favorite pieces and moments of 2024!

2024 was good! I tried many new styles, participated in Des Moines Art Week, did commission work for local musicians and brands, sold a Christmas coloring book in some great establishments, and joined an art group full of so many talented local artists. This year was full of personal growth from reaching more people on social media, collaborating with different likeminded artists, and selling my art in new ways such as in person, in stores, and online.

My page may look a little different at the beginning of this year due to some new adventures. I am proud to say that I am a scholarship recipient at the Des Moines Art Center. Starting next month I’ll be attending an oil painting class and working in the open studio! Later this February I will be participating in the digital art residency put on by Art Beacon Des Moines. Throughout this period I will be posting updates of my progress and artistic journey. I hope 2025 has as much to offer as 2024. Happy New Year!
