This is the Grand Tour des Ecrins 🇫🇷
A 117 mile backpacking loop through the French alps. 10 days and 40,000 feet of elevation gain. Also known at the GR54 this loop goes around Oisans and the Ecrins Massif in the heart of the Ecrins national park. DAY 9+10 on the GR54! FINISH 🥳 What an eventful last 2 days! Day 9 was one of the most physically challenging days and our last climb was during peak sun and heat. Jenny and I were close to the summit with a few switchbacks left when a gust of wind blew dirt and debris all over causing a blackout. I clung to the side of the trail and luckily we made it to the top with no problems 😳 Day 10 we had a small climb from camp and stopped by le Lauvitel for a swim. After that it was all down hill to the town we started in, Le Bourg-d’Oisans. I enjoyed walking alone for a bit and saying hi to the day hikers before a celebratory lunch with the crew in town. Took a fun and very different route up Whiteface and Passaconway for 31 and 32 of my SSF! We also helped Platinum get up the 40/48! It was a great 15ish mile day in the mountains!

DAY 2 on the GR54 aka the Tour de Ecrins in the French Alps 🇫🇷 We woke up and had a decent climb to make it to the town of Besse for a morning coffee and my day old PB and honey sandwich. Every time I looked up I could see hikers so far up the mountain they looked like ants. But it was worth the climb when we got to the top and saw the snow peaked mountains. We weren’t in a big rush so we have plenty of time to stop and enjoy the views. We took a detour to a lake and had lunch (ramen and cookies) and made our decent to another village La Grave. We ended the day at the local campground and had burgers for dinner. #hiking #backpacking #frenchalps #gr54 #getoutside #hikewithme

The group was separated into 2 for the day. We wouldn’t all be together again until tomorrow. Still, a beautiful day with the most insanely coloured lakes. Today felt a little less wild, like we were always close to civilization and there being a few people on the trail. But cannot complain at all!!

Recently I bought an ikon ski pass. That means it’s officially winter, regardless of the date.

This fall has been extremely rough for me. One I would like to forget. There has been a copious amount of stressful traveling to longed for destinations. I moved into a communal home with some of my best friends from Maine. I’ve learned to hate them all, especially Jason as he uses the kitchen too much. Mother Nature has teased beautiful sunsets and super moons just to have the world go dark by 5pm.

Hopefully the winter time will provide some much needed seratonin. The ikon pass is all I have left to live for.

10 of us, on the GR54! Chris and Lisa, from my PCT trail family, joined us. As did Noelle and Alexa, who hiked the PCT the same year as us (we never crossed paths). Jenny, Iyke and Susi have also had their fair share of hiking around the world. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, as that’s when the mountains really begin. I filmed this on my @dji osmo pocket 3. It wasn’t until the end of the day I realised I had a big smudge on the screen, watcha gonna do. I cleaned it for the next day. This is going to be an amazing adventure!
