It was raining and the studio had a serene Sunday kind of feel. The crew and I worked seamlessly, with just a nod or a slight suggestion. We don’t really need to speak much at this point …
Natural light and a bit of strobe way off to the side ( the image is cropped ) captured a timeless sort of portrait that I’m returning to lately. Full circle. Straight, no chaser.

Thank you to Lexi ( in vintage Betsey Johnson ) for allowing us to expand your arsenal.
Magazine ready makeup by Vula.
Set queen ( “damn this light is heavy”) by the ever competent Cynthia. Wardrobe and fine tuning by the incomparable Izi A.

It was fun, wasn’t it?

Emerson: “the glance is natural magic…”

During every sitting, when chance is with us, something spontaneous happens in between the planned shots. We invite friends, encourage them to disregard what they think they should look like, and almost always create something unexpected. At its best, portrait photography is recording an improvised moment.

There is a naturally lighted pocket alcove in my studio. It changes as the sun arcs past our windows during the day. I never get tired of this perfectly blank canvas nor figuring out how to create within it.
