I don’t care what you read. Just read.

Percival Everett is a superb storyteller both on the page and in person. He was engaging, funny and insightful. This is one of those author events I’ll still be talking about years from now.

The event at the Kentucky Theatre was part of the 2026 Community Reads program here in Lexington, Kentucky, cosponsored by the Lexington Public Library and UK Libraries.

I recorded several snippets and thought the Bookstagram community might particularly enjoy these.

Have you read Percival Everett? He has published more than 30 books, so take your pick.

Book lovers, this one's for you! 📚❤️

The Friends Book Cellar is tucked away in the lower level of Lexington's Central Library, and it's packed with thousands of used books, puzzles, games, and more. Most books are under $5, so you can stock up without spending a fortune! The best part? Purchases help support programs and services at our local library. 🥰

Today has been perfect. Started the morning with a London fog and phenomenal conversation with @lexpublib executive director. Worked for a few hours at @thegreenerylex before heading to @civiclex.ky board meeting. It’s a helpful reminder that while I travel a ton for work, this community is home.

At a sold-out Kentucky Theatre in downtown Lexington Tuesday night, Percival Everett once again demonstrated the power of the written word to challenge established structures and norms, query the human condition, and change the way we see the world.

Brought to Lexington through a partnership between University of Kentucky Libraries and the Lexington Public Library, Everett was the featured speaker for the annual Earle C. Clements Lecture-Symposium.

What a privilege it was to have Percival Everett back in Lexington to discuss his novel James!

Thanks to @uklibraries and @lexpublib for putting together such a wonderful public talk. We were honored to be the booksellers for this event and to know that so many of you went home with new Percival Everett books 📚

Thanks also to @thekentuckytheatre for hosting us! We can’t wait to be back ☺️

Last night was one for the books. Accidental Lexington Bookchella — sold out events with Percival Everett at the Kentucky Theatre and our own @silashouse + musical guests at The Burl — was packed, fabulous, and could only happen here. That sound of flipping pages you hear is much of Lexington having finished reading “James” and turning immediately to “The Tulip Poplars.” Bluegrass book culture is thriving.
