I did an advent calendar this year, but instead of treats or trinkets the advent gifts were people. Through ZOOMs, phone calls, lunches, and dinners I was able to reconnect with so many...
and what started out as a personal project for myself to combat holiday sadness opened the door for even more reconnections, meetings, and just seeing people. I consider it all being a part of my “time of advent.”

I connected with 50+ people in the past 30 days. A huge deal for me as I tend to lock myself away throughout the year in creative and writing cocoons. I didn’t get pictures with everyone, but some things were just to stay in the moment. Thank you to everyone who helped me close out 2024 and made my December something to remember.

The recurring theme for me in 2024 was COMMUNITY. I was able to experience community in so many ways this year, and it started with the art Suppers that happened throughout Louisiana starting in Lafayette.

These suppers were conceived and facilitated by Gerri Hobdy with leadership and support from Power Coalition President and Founder Ashley Shelton with the goal of bringing black artists together to build community and use art as a stimulus to create change in our neighborhoods especially when it comes to voting. The Lafayette Delegation was led by Natalie Spencer and consisted of members Ruth Foote, Herb Pucci Green, Grace Hamilton-Mayfield, Erica Melancon Fox, and me Brian Egland.

Milton Arceneaux served as the event photographer.

It is always my intention to keep in touch, but the opposite is often the reality. So this holiday season, reconnecting with people has been my Christmas wish. Now I can check reuniting with my Along the Nile cast off my list. Just missing Cocoa to make the cast complete, but how nice it is to gather, and even if virtual, be in space together again.

One day I would love to have a big dinner or get together with all the actors and artists (or as many as I can gather) who have been a part of all my plays throughout the years.

When you believe…and I mean GENUINELY BELIEVE in your vision, there has to be understanding that TIME and PATIENCE plays a major role along the process.

Never RUSH your project. Give grace to your vision. The Blessings won’t come overnight, they may not come in a few months. It may take a year, a year and some months, two years + even. One things for sure…the Blessings will arrive in divine timing when you properly cater to YOUR VISION.

With all of the awards that this film has EARNED throughout several film festivals that it’s entered is UNIMAGINABLE ‼️🤯
