Last night Lucas Holmgren took the stage and reminded us why we do this. Every week, we open our doors to local musicians because their talent deserves a room full of people who are listening. When you show up, buy a drink, and stay for one more song, you’re helping a local artist keep doing what they love, right here at home.

Our community is full of incredible talent. Let’s keep showing up for it. Join us next Thursday and support the artists in our own backyard! Check out event page on Facebook for music line up.

Giants of the Salmon World: The Percy Walkus Hatchery and Record-Breaking Fish

The Percy Walkus Hatchery in Rivers Inlet, British Columbia, has been associated with some truly extraordinary salmon. Through hatchery supplementation, the region has produced reports of salmon weighing more than 75 pounds, with some reportedly exceeding 80 pounds.

One particularly remarkable catch-and-release fish was estimated to weigh 105.9 pounds based on its measurements. If independently verified and officially recognized, that estimated weight would exceed the all-tackle world record. A salmon of that reported size is an extraordinary example of the giants that can inhabit these waters.

Among the anglers with an exceptional history of catching giant salmon is Gayle and John Gordon, who has caught and released more than 40 salmon weighing over 50 pounds.

This year, Gayle and her husband have continued that impressive run, releasing four salmon weighing more than 50 pounds: 77.58 pounds, 68.17 pounds, 64.2 pounds, and 53 pounds.

These are remarkable fish by any standard. Their dedication to catch-and-release fishing gives these magnificent salmon the opportunity to return to the water and continue their journey, while allowing future anglers the chance to encounter these incredible fish.

The story of the Percy Walkus Hatchery and the giant salmon associated with Rivers Inlet highlights the potential of British Columbia’s salmon fisheries, the dedication of experienced anglers, and the importance of responsible fisheries management.

Rivers Inlet is a place where salmon fishing can produce truly unforgettable encounters—and where stories of giant fish continue to capture the imagination of anglers everywhere.

What did Lucas do wrong here, and is he ever getting net duty again? 😂

Monster salmon on the line, probably pushing 25 pounds… and Lucas gives us one of the wildest net jobs I’ve ever witnessed. Buddy is NEVER living this one down. 🤦‍♂️

Nostalgic throwback: we used to downrigger fish little F4 and F3 for stocker trout at Hagg Lake in the early 2000’s @yakimabaitco from our @willieboats

I talked a little bit about this with @jarodhigginbothamybc at the Portland sportsman show when he had the frog pattern laying on the table and I told him that was one of my favorite patterns to catch the trout.
