New phase for @newman.baseball

We used a pretty classic Triphaaic structure for the first 3 phases.

We are now in phase 4.

Phase 4 has a faster eccentric focus with some accentuated heavy eccentric strength work.

Today's main blocks looked like this.

2 sets
Lateral Drop Pushup to single arm balance x 4/side

Split stance high to low plate chop x 8/side

Trw W Iso Hold x 4 w/ 5 sec hold

3 sets

Eccentric chinup x 2 reps
15 secs per rep
10 secs between reps

2 up 1 down eccentric Landmine RDL
X 4 per side
The goal is to make no sound getting down to the ground.

3 sets

2 up 1 down landmine press x 4/side

Split stance band chop x 8/side
3 secs to come back to just beyond midline

The kids are starting to really focus. I think they are just excited to be done with the super general work and do something they think is more "baseball".

Our whole week was 🔒.

Good job fellas.

The 3 - 7 goblet split squat ladder.

It goes 3 reps, 4 reps, 5 reps , 6 reps, 7 reps per side.

50 reps total.

This is paired with a single arm db row.

This is the total body volume section of their lift.

I love split squats and row ladders for giving measured doses of venom to the kids.

These guys are still young and developmental.

Part of that process is bringing them to the deep end and letting them learn to swim.

I don't choose their weights, they do.

I don't tell them they can't stop, they decide if they need to.

I ask them for quality movement and to be tough.

I want effort and capacity to be pushed.

This group wants it.

They know they have to take it and earn every step forward from this point.

@bradyheminger20 is athlete 1.
@ydk.toby is athlete 2.
@dzitnick99 is athlete 3.

You are watching the first 2 guys at reps 36-50.

The last video is a heroic effort from David.

He did 50 unbroken reps at 85lbs.

I'm very very proud of what these guys went through today.

Tough on a thurs.

We are on phase 2 on offseason prep.

We have advanced the warmup, increase plyo volume and it's isometrics for split squats, pullups, landmine presses, long lever adductor work. We came out of a 2 week tempo block, 2 week normal reps and now this BS.

The crown jewel of the lower body session is 2 sets of 12 reps on this Iso-Dynamic goblet split squat.

WATCH UNTIL THE END to see @luke103310 do the almost the whole thing.

It goes 6 reps per 🦵 alternating legs per rep.

Rep 1 is 10 secs hold per leg.
Rep 2 8 secs
Rep 3 6 secs
Rep 4 5 secs
Rep 5 4 secs
Rep 6 3 secs

Everyone 🔒 in on this because you dont really have a choice.

Next phase is a suitcase variation with 10 secs hold at the bottom + 5 reps for speed.

Honestly they took it better than I thought.

Good work fellas.

Fun day today with @newman.baseball

We did some sprint testing on the 30yd accel.

2 guys went sub 3.5s. All but 2 hit reps under 4 secs.

We did some iso-dynamic pushups / inverted rows for 3 sets of 6 reps.

Rep 1: 10 secs hold
Rep 2: 8 secs hold
Rep 3: 6 secs hold
Rep 4: 5 secs hold
Rep 5: 4 secs hold
Rep 6: 3 secs hold

Pushups were done in the stretched position.

Inverted Rows were in the contracted position.

This is NASTY.

We finished with 3 partnered torso stability/ arm care exercises.

Exercise 1 was a bear crawl lateral push.

Exercise 2 was a half kneeling paloff push/pull.

Exercise 3 (Video) was a single arm partner pullup and lower down. This is killer for anti rotation work and posterior shoulder strength and stability.

They naturally have to organize and figure out how to make it work. High tension, high engagement, and valuable stimulation of the whole body.

If you've followed me for a while, you know that I am a huge fan of "no sound" trap bar deadlifts.

There is no set tempo, but what happens is the kids have to spend more time in the starting position in what is an eccentric/iso effort.

We start these about 2 weeks before we start jumping a lot and working on concentric strength. About 2 weeks removed from these lifts, the fatigue fades and the vertical jumps go crazy.

@gianlucaaluciano @liamhardyman working at 305 for the 3 x 5.

Good work fellas. Can't wait to turn this up!
