It was such a surreal experience directing the first week of “The Ransom of Redbeard.” This will always be my first and I cannot be more grateful for everyone that’s been involved so far! Now there is so much more work to do. Yarrr

New York's magic is in its people. I remember the first time I arrived in the city on a hot, humid afternoon in June. I hated it. The depressing architecture, the concrete jungle, the chaos, the smell. But as you start getting into the rhythm of this chaotic place, the thing that becomes immediately clear is a simple advantage that the city will have over many other places around the world: the people. Unique, eccentric, ambitious, talented, stressed, sad, lonely - all kinds of people in one big jungle, dreaming and working every single day to make it. And what makes New York so magical is how easy paths can cross, just like Liam's and mine. A quick hello can lead to an evening of discovery, debate, and bonding. EURYDICE: THE UNDERWORLD Sarah Ruhl’s underworld in “Eurydice” is damp, dark, and cold. There are strange, high pitched noises, like a tea kettle always boiling over. There lives a chorus of stones who speak in a soft, almost inaudible language, and a river that makes you forget. We used primary imagery of film negatives and inverted photos as research for our underworld design. After her death, Eurydice arrives in the underworld in a raining elevator, wearing a 60s elopements suit inverted from white to dark blue. The Lord of the Underworld is a small but nasty child, visually sitting somewhere between a delinquent schoolboy and a punk boy scout. - Directed by Daniel Sepehr Bamdad Costume Design - Jackson Underwood Assistant Costume Designer - Em Hacking Scenic Design - Helen Maleeny Early Costume Research - Mingyan Zhu Lighting Design - Delaney Price Sound Design & Composition - Karter Labarre Dramaturg - Madelyn Streisfeld Stage Manager - Griffin Chyall Movement Coach - Rachel Tecora Tucker Fight Director - Lisa Velten Smith

EURYDICE: THE WEDDING We approached the wedding scene in our version of Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice” with a “1980s prom does wedding” mentality. Taking inspiration from prom photos from the 80s, I spent countless hours searching for the perfect dress and tux. I visited all the best vintage stores in Pittsburgh and scoured the internet for anything that could work. Eventually, I found this gorgeous taffeta dress on Etsy, which we hemmed to a tea length high-low silhouette. The final piece of the puzzle was Orpheus’ STUNNING vintage ruffle shirt, for which I must thank Richard of @eonsfashion - he had 2 of these nearly impossible to find After Six shirts, one of which he was using in his “Its About Time” Fashion show for the Pittsburgh Opera. He kindly sold me the other one, which so happened to fit our actor Noah just right! - Directed by Daniel Sepehr Bamdad Costume Design - Jackson Underwood Assistant Costume Designer - Em Hacking Scenic Design - Helen Maleeny Early Costume Research - Mingyan Zhu Lighting Design - Delaney Price Sound Design & Composition - Karter Labarre Dramaturg - Madelyn Streisfeld Stage Manager - Griffin Chyall Movement Coach - Rachel Tecora Tucker Fight Director - Lisa Velten Smith 📸 @bethbarbis
