2025 the year I got a camera •
It all started with pictures of my pets & trees in the backyard. After hearing my students complain about large watermarks or overpriced pictures of their sports. I decided to pack up my camera, some lenses and attend as many SHS events I could fit into my coaching schedule. My first pictures were not great to put it nicely. But as I captured athletes on the ice, court, mat and more I started to learn how to actually use my camera. • My school Google drive was filled with folders of every game/match I went to that would be shared out to my students. I was able to not only photograph the Varsity star players. But I also showed up for the JV2 or JV3 athletes who don’t always get the recognition & respect they deserve. It always put a smile on my face when students would thank me for the pictures or remind me of their next game. My camera traveled with me to a variety of sporting venues, captured a Junior Prom, graduation, family holidays & a wedding. • Tomczik Media was created to share the edited pictures & videos I took to social media. After editing a few events I quickly learned how time consuming & challenging the process can be. Taking on average 1,000-3,000 pictures each sporting event I can understand why photographers monetize their work. While I’m not at the level yet, I strive to capture athletes & events organically to provide lasting memories one photo at a time. •After making one of the hardest decisions of my career, I left the town where my journey began. The current students and my past students of Sparta High School, you will always have a special place in my heart. A place of many firsts in my education career. I never thought I would miss students asking if they could come into the gym on my prep to shoot basketballs or pepper with a volleyball. I’ll never forgot the memories as Ms. Tomczik at SHS ❤️ • After relocating to Wausau my hope for 2026 is to bring more sports/events to life through pictures & film ✌🏼Claire Tomczik, educator, coach & now (very) amateur photographer
