This is what last night’s @foodcardiff open invite network meet-up looked like! ✌🏼

Food Cardiff is part of the @sustainablefoodplaces network; it’s a city-wide partnership of individuals and organisations - it acts as a hub for connecting the people and projects working to promote healthy, environmentally sustainable and ethical food across the city, and acts as a voice for wider change.

Last night, 30+ people from all over Cardiff got together to discuss good food at the brilliant not-for-profit community space @spitandsawdustskatepark. The @spitandsawdustskatepark team put on some epic snacks using ingredients sourced from @cardifffarmersmarket, there was a panel talk about good food chaired by the brilliant @liamoutselou, there was a chance for attendees to shout out about their own good food projects and events - and even an opportunity for people to have a skate if they wanted to 🤙🏼

I’ve been a volunteer on the strategy board at @foodcardiff for a while now, but they’re also a client so last night we were busy filming the event (cheers @willdotbarker); keep an eye on @foodcardiff’s social channels for an interview with the lovely Nia from @spitandsawdust_skatepark to follow, and find out more about this lush values-driven venue.

This picture epitomises international womens day for me…..A group of amazing females working together collaboratively, equally and creatively, all empowering and supporting each other.
We created a female led immersive event raising money for action against hunger.

Women we are our greatest allies, we are our greatest strength, together we are powerful, compassionate, a force to be reckoned with, and loud. Our voices travel further when we hold each other up.

Why is International womens day so important, still in 2022??
Because women are 9 times more likely to become victims of domestic violence, physiological abuse, sexual abuse, victims of harassment, they are more likely to be paid less, and they continue to be persecuted around the world for simply being female.
As women we rise up, we will not be scared anymore……

Calling all my beautiful women, you are strong, you matter, you are amazing.

The Welsh Cake is sacred and timeless – it is without a doubt a national treasure. Paired perfectly with a paned, it forces us to stop for a moment and reflect (or gossip). Its comforting and crumbling demeanour makes it a truly perfect snack.

Whilst nothing beats the traditional recipe, @lias_kitchen Citrus and White Chocolate twist certainly comes close. Tangy yet sweet, you’ll be left wanting (many) more.

Happy international women’s day.

One of the most powerful things we can do is support other women ❤️

This pic, a throwback of an event we held to celebrate women in business, women who are under represented in their industry, whilst raising money for @actionagainsthungeruk
It was an incredible evening, filled with joy, good food, delicious drinks, amazing music and wonderful company.

The world over, women are still persecuted for simply being a woman. In many countries women and girls are treated like second class citizens, and domestic violence still takes the lives of many women.
We still have a long way to go, be strong, support each other, don’t turn a blind eye, and speak up......rise up 💪

✨WOMEN IN BUSINESS✨

I just want to say, I absolutely love these ladies @hangfirebbq, and all the other amazing women I’ve met since since opening the Pantry. The support from these two ladies and others is empowering, safe, caring and honest.

Big love to all women in business, and a massive shout out to @rachel_burgess_bridal_boutique @clairehilldesigns and @homebykirsty for being kick arse.

Women supporting each other strengthens the net, the gender equality net.

Let’s champion each other, empower other women and their achievements. We’ve come a long way in gender equality in this country but still have a long way to go. Don’t stop fighting for equal rights ladies ❤️

THE WELSH RAREBIT

Comforting and iconic. The humble Welsh Rarebit has the power to heal any gloomy day, fill the kitchen table with joy, and set you up for whatever comes your way. For some, it’s a posh cheese on toast, for us it’s so much more, and it can be so many different things. It burdens our hiraeth, celebrates our highs, and can ignite the most powerful form of nostalgia.

We really don’t deserve the Welsh Rarebit.

Here, @lias_kitchen’s recipe has the basics covered – cheddar (lots), dark ale and Worcester sauce – but folds in a beautiful and unexpected twist of seaweed. We felt like St David’s Day weekend was the perfect time to share this wonderful and easy recipe.
