One of our Christmas traditions that almost didn’t make the cut this year was our little traveling nativity. But the kids insisted it’s their favorite part of Christmas so at midnight as it turned to Christmas Eve I found myself frantically texting my sister and bleaching moldy costumes in my kitchen sink thinking we sure were going to be authentic, at least with our smell. We are a ragtag little bunch in our bathrobes and sneakers and I found myself wondering what Jesus would think of a twirling sheep and shepherds with sunglasses and a football for baby Jesus because the doll was lost in a recent move. Not to mention the fact that the sheep kept trying to get the cars to honk at them. I decided that Jesus would love it, sunglasses and all. After all, the OG shepherds were a pretty ragtag bunch themselves. The kids don’t seem to mind that we always pick a busy street and their high school friends sometimes drive by and see them in public with their aunt wearing a fake beard while trying to corral sheep in cotton ball hats. So next year, gather your bathrobes and your football baby Jesus and take your own little nativity on the road and share about the birth of our Savior, Christ the King! “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:11-14.
