We are very happy to introduce fantastic new Libby Hague (@libby_hague) digital prints into our online store. Libby’s practice examines the humane and complex social relationships in our precarious and interconnected world. This new digital series ‘Hiding in plain sight’ is a mini drama of immediate peril and the search for safe haven. Originally created and presented in the Karachi Biennale in 2019 as a 60ft long woodcut installation titled ‘On this Wondrous sea’, the work here is revised as 12 digital miniatures by combining documentation from the installation with stop frame animation. All 12 prints can be viewed in our online shop. Image 1: Hiding in plain sight, digital print, edition of 15, 15.3” x 10.7”. Image 2: Hiding in plain sight, detail. Image 3: can someone please, digital print, edition of 15, 15.3” x 10.7”. Image 4: can someone please, detail. Image 5: not waving, digital print, edition of 15, 15.3” x 10.7”. Image 6: not waving, detail. Image 7: land ho!, digital print, edition of 15, 15.3” x 10.7”. Image 8: land ho!, detail. Libby will be showing an installation in our main gallery space alongside Sadko Hadzihasanovic for the exhibition ‘Over the Horizon: Pushing Boundaries in Print’ in September. Experiencing Libby Hague’s gorgeous woodcut prints, even online, is like taking a journey in which birds, people, plants, and water speak link below). It is fun to see her characters individual moments as well as an installation's big picture! Enjoy! I've asked to recommend art that is supporting her now. - Lisa Deanne Smith, Onsite Gallery, OCAD University 1. Art has an important, and increased, role in meeting our need for connection and communication. Are there any art works, discussions and/or projects you have experienced over the past two months that have supported you? Libby: Since you ask what projects have supported me, I will mention three. First, streaming good theatre from around the world. Second, my memories of the best exhibitions I have seen like “From root to tip” by Jennifer Rose Sciarrino at Mercer Union last summer. Like a sophisticated indoor garden, it was elegant and confident with surprising flower forms perhaps eight feet tall! made from glass, stone and steel. I loved it. The other thing also giving me delight now is gardening. The plants I am growing in boxes in my backyard. They are very cute, and I like fussing over them. libbyhague.com/ @libby_hague. #torontoart #printmaking #water
