Drums: Leon Schmitz
Bas: Chiel van Rijn
Keys: Remco van Zandvoort
Gitaren: Mik Jongbloed, Vincent Opheikens, Jesse Peters, Tom Hindriks, Jasmijn Kok, Lauren Lieuw Hie, Alexander Sychev, Maarten van der Sluis, Rob Uijtjens, Ben Verhoeven

"Was he different, or just one of the students?" "Just one of the students."

Tomo Fujita on @johnmayer at Berklee: probably a little above the middle. What made the difference wasn't talent, it was that John came to the right place to check himself, saw how many great players there were, and worked harder. He never missed a 9 AM lesson on a Tuesday.

20 years after Continuum, about 300 guitarists showed up to play one John Mayer song together.

On September 12, guitarists of all ages filled the square at Sound & Vision in Hilversum, the Netherlands, to play Waiting on the World to Change. Twenty years on, this record still brings people together.

@johnmayer, this one is for you. From all the guitarists in the Netherlands and the @gitaarmannen podcast community: thank you for the record that got so many of us playing.

Were you one of the 300? Tell us where you came from.

Official aftermovie of Continuum Day. Filmed by Sebastiaan Boomsma. With thanks to @prsguitars_europe and @beeldgeluid.

"You have five fingers. You can play five notes. Why do you play four?"

Joe Pass asked Tomo Fujita one question during a lesson at Berklee, and it changed the way he plays. Everybody used a pick and fingers back then. Nobody asked why.

The first time I heard this album I knew something was about to happen that I’d been hoping for for years: the electric guitar was back. Back in the form I love hearing and seeing it most: as an extension of voice and melody. Building on what the legends before him (Hendrix, Clapton) had already done. He’d transformed without ever having to go down to the crossroads. Pure class. Nothing was ever too much, nowhere was it just a “guitar record”. The guitar was always supporting, always there at the right moments. Carefully measured out by a craftsman who’d found his form. The songs were so good, and they were about the stuff I was dealing with myself in my mid twenties. The first time I heard a crappy YouTube live version of Stop This Train (live at Hotel Café) I sat there crying for the rest of the night. That’s how deep it hit. Music can be a band-aid for the soul. This album was a flipping emergency room. ❤️‍🩹

It gave my own songwriting the room to flourish. It gave me the confidence to actually put that guitar solo in that song. No Continuum, no “Tricks Up My Sleeve”, and I’d probably still be sitting in some office in my mid forties. On a business park just outside Utrecht. Dreaming about a life that could have been.

Yesterday around 500 of us came together to celebrate this album. This album that came out 20 years ago. We played Waiting On The World To Change together and it was cathartic. We came to put that feeling somewhere, that this was and is important to us. The youngest one on the square was 10, the oldest 79. That says enough. This is a timeless album that will keep inspiring, and that will keep producing new guitarists and songwriters. Thank you John Mayer, for making exactly the right album at exactly the right moment 🙏❤️🎸
