COMMUNITY IN ACTION!

Yesterday, the South End showed up in a BIG way! More than 60 community members came out to put paint and help bring this community designed mural to life, led by talented local artist, @west_nash_ican_ .

This mural is part of the Park City Urban Beautification Program, an initiative rooted in using public art to bring community together, uplift neighborhood voices, and create spaces that reflect the people who call them home. Public art should be created with community, by community, and for community.

A huge THANK YOU to the South End NRZ, to the staff at the Windward, especially Latoya & every community member who came out, picked up a brush, and became part of this work, as well as all of our incredible partners who continue to help make this initiative meaningful.

A very special thank you to @fccfoundation_ct None of this would be possible without their generous support through the Arts in Equity Grant and their investment in community-centered arts and culture.

The mural isn’t finished just yet, but we’re getting close! Stay tuned for the completed piece.

Hey Bridgeport, WE NEED YOU!

This Saturday, September 12th, we’re coming together to bring a community designed mural to life and YOU are invited to be part of it!

Led by artist West Nash, this mural was created by and with community at its heart. Now it’s time to pick up a brush and make your mark. No experience necessary, just bring your creativity, your family, your friends, and your community spirit!

Public art is at its best when the community has a hand in creating it. Come paint with us and be part of something that will live in the South End neighborhood for years to come.

A special thank you to all of our incredible partners who helped make this project possible, including the @cityofbridgeportct and to @fccfoundation_ct for investing in community, creativity, and connection through the arts in equity grant that is currently fueling
The Park City Urban Beautification Project.

Let’s paint together, Bridgeport!

In partnership, City Lights Gallery & the Bridgeport Arts & Cultural Council are seeking art for this powerful and deeply relevant summer exhibition at City Lights Gallery. "Broken But Beautiful: Youth Beneath Capitalism".

This show explores the emotional realities of growing up in a world shaped by pressure, survival, expectation, and uncertainty, while still finding ways to dream, create, resist, and remain beautiful through it all.

We are looking for visual artists of all backgrounds and ages whose work speaks to identity, resilience, memory, struggle, healing, protest, community, or hope through the lens of youth experience. We have all been young.

Whether your work is raw, reflective, political, personal, experimental, or uplifting, we want to see it. •Youth voices matter •Art can tell the truth.
•Broken does not mean powerless.

Submit your work through the form on the QR code or on "Open Calls" at https://www.bridgeportartscouncil.org/open-calls

If you’re struggling to figure out what to post, take people behind the, show the your process share your unique perspective on a subject

Bridgeport is a beautiful city, I don’t live in a fairy tale, I grew up in BedStuy at birth of Hip Hop. @fab5freddy lived around the corner from me, this before his career took off. Btw he has a new book out.

Bridgeport like old Brooklyn was not a desirable place to live but, as the rents continued to skyrocket people made their way into Brooklyn.

Violence was all around us it was normal, it was only until I got older did I realize that wasn’t normal. When I travel throughout Bridgeport and see vacant lots I see opportunity.

@lifebridgect held a symposium where the Keynote speaker was Bruce Perry he’s the author of what happened to you with Oprah. Co-Keynote speaker was Cathy Malchiodi I’m not familiar with her work I think it had something to do with music/art don’t quote me fact check me.

@principalvernonthompson premiered a new video @alicia_c_cobb was one of the featured artist

This past weekend, we had our working retreat for Park City Urban Beautification Project. This project has opened our eyes, hearts and minds in such a beautiful way. Thank you to our partners who showed up for the conversation and offered honest and insightful feedback. Thank you to our facilitator, John Cusano who really took the time to create something special for us. Thank to @flowersfromtea for a beautiful and intimate live acoustic performance for the board. Thank you as always to the incomparable @fccfoundation_ct as this project wouldn't have happened if not for their generosity and belief in the work we are doing. The organization is growing. We have amazing partners and a beautiful community in Bridgeport. Stay tuned for all that is to come.
