Congrats @midpackgrvldad for the finish at Big Sugar in @bentonvillearkansas!

Here’s his race report:

“
Big Sugar Race Report. Finished in the top 50% - 451 out of 988 riders in 50 mile. Goal was top half, and we checked that box. I knew this day may be tougher for me with my riding style and the course had good elevation.

Easily the toughest course I’ve ever done. I knew the terrain would be a challenge, but those hills were tough. Ran out of gears on two climbs and had to hike-a-bike the final stretch of one. Sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and keep moving. However, I felt better seeing so many strong riders having to walk.

Lots of super fun descents. Many times we were going 30-40mph on some. Some loose gravel and sharp turns. The course is constantly turning, not much time going straight. This creates a lot of gaps and of course with fun descents comes a large hill to climb right back up.

No mechanicals. Only one little set back with 20 miles to go, I lost the nozzle to my USWE it fell off down a hill. No valve meant dumping all my nutrition and carb mix, and I rode the final stretch with no hydration. Luckily it was cool or I would have been in a world of hurt. Apparently the course itself wasn’t trying hard enough to kill me, so I needed this little non mechanical. 😎

With two miles left, we got stopped in the chute while the pro women finished right alongside us. Lost probably 8-10 minutes for this. It was required to stop and lifetime officials made us. Pretty cool experience to witness up close!

Wasn’t my best day on the bike, and those hills definitely got the better of me a few times. But the goal was to finish in the top half, and we got it done despite the challenges.

Beautiful weather, incredible terrain, and one hell of a day on the bike. This might be an annual thing if not more! Loved the ride!

The start of the Leadville 100, the legendary ultramarathon over 10,000 feet created to get an old mining town back to life in 1982. It was such as amazing experience to crew and get my love to that finish line. The start was magical, 800 runners taking off in the light of headlamps. ABSOLUTELY AN AMAZING RACE.
.
While talking, a lot came up about what is your finish line? This is why I love endurance sports, being around others pushing limits. People who have big goals, and then love running. Congrats to anyone who lined up for this race, a finish or not. #grit #leadville #ultrarunners @leadvilleraceseries #endurance #amazingplace
