Happy World Theatre Day! This year I wanted to pull some of my favorite memories from my time with the Neumann Players.
Three years ago during Phantom was when I really fell in love with theatre again. I never dreamed I would have the chance to perform in my favorite musical, let alone have a principal role.
Christmas Carol was the first time I had a chance to choreograph a dance that wasn’t for a recital. It was a style I had to research extensively, and it made me a better choreographer.
Mary Poppins was the first full musical I choreographed, and I loved every minute of it, even though I got hurt and was in a boot for the majority of our rehearsals and had to rely on Dani and Carolyn to teach while I watched from the sides. This was the first time I was able to pour my heart out into the dances and help the cast feel confident in their skills because most of them had never tapped before.
Hello, Dolly! was my second lead role, apart from Olga in The Three Sisters during COVID. I was overwhelmed to say the least. This show taught me how to really perform and get into character. Something happened differently during every rehearsal and performance and it taught me to be on my toes and ready for everything, even though I have improv. I thought bax was crazy when he told me he wanted me to be Dolly, but gosh does that man know how to cast a show! There is so much love in my heart for this show and this cast, and this truly felt like the first show where the Players were a family and not just a group of actors working together.
To my friends who have been there for my theatre journey, thank you for keeping me going and never letting me give up.
Theatre has truly changed me as a person, and I am so grateful for all of the opportunities theatre has given me. #worldtheatreday #nuplayers
