I am not not not not not not not not not not forever going to be grateful that I got to do this show 🩵

SpongeBob has held a special place in my heart since I was a young little invertebrate, and the SpongeBob Musical has too ever since I got to see it on Broadway on its closing night back in 2018. It's such a heartfelt show that I knew I'd eventually love to be in, but I never expected to be playing the iconic Squidward Q. Tentacles prior to being cast in the role at Santa Monica College this summer.

Squidward is a character who I, like many, came to appreciate much more after childhood, as his cynicism and perturbance feel all the more relatable amidst the struggles and pains of adult life. He has a tender heart deep beneath that grumpy exterior, one that can only flourish when he embraces the connections to those who care about him rather than shutting the world out and wallowing in miserable patterns. That’s not always easy to do, but playing this octopus has honestly inspired me and signaled a change in my life for the better. Also I got to walk around on four legs and make funny fart sounds with my tongue.

There are so many people who worked on this show that I am grateful to, but I’d like to give specific shoutouts to @pervizsawoski, for directing such a rich & lively show and casting me in one of the most challenging & fun roles I’ve ever played, @johnsawoski, for being a delightfully talented and professional musician who I had the pleasure to work with, @highfidelityy and @jakeymuthafreakinairplane, for allowing me to join the projection team and fulfill my ongoing multimedia passions, @wesleighwadleigh, without whom I would not have discovered this show was even happening, and @itsjustcha, for helping to bring “I’m Not a Loser” to life and being the best friend I could ask for in a cast full of people I’d never met. Doing this show has changed the trajectory of my year, and I’m going to fondly remember this plunge into Bikini Bottom for quite some time 🛟💛

Honestly, it was the friends we made along the way. So much love went into this show. It was such a privilege to be able to escape to Bikinj Bottom for an hour every night with you all. Hope I get to revisit this show with some better beatboxing skills!!
