We had an absolute blast with author Georgia Moorhouse (@gmoorhousewrites) in Edinburgh this month, dropping off proofs of her upcoming debut novel, Imaginary Forces, to lovely booksellers all around town! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨

📚📍@argonautbooks | @toppingsedin | @portybooks | @typewronger | @theedinburghbookshop | @lighthousebks |@bookloversbookshop | @goldenharebooks |@rarebirdsbooks |@waterstones

Imaginary Forces is a luminous, gripping portrait of love in its many forms and just how destructive it can be, filled with yearning, obsession and addiction.

Safe to say, we’re super excited and are counting down the days until January 2027!🎉

I’ve been up since 5am trying to do my tax, so I thought I would try and focus on the positives by posting the good bits of being self employed. I’ve also got an announcement coming soon but can’t figure out the best way to tell you all!!

1. Researching and writing all day means I can spend money on books without feeling guilty (not that I ever would). I also have a bit of an obsession buying objects related to Scottish women’s history. Best bookshops include @lighthousebks @categoryisbooks & @oxfambooksbyresroad 📚

2. I get to work on really cool projects. Currently I am working on developing the @alfwebstermuseum. I’m in charge of the research, outreach and engagement, so I am currently working on interpretation for the space inside the museum. Picture featuring the wonderful@stained glass artist and conservator @mackenzieglassstudio 📝

3. I’m working on a new course for anyone who wants to learn more about Scottish women’s history. I’m hoping to launch this course early December. Can you guess the topic? ⁉️

4. I get to talk to some really cool people. Most recently I got to chat with @anorfolkbroad for the podcast halloween special coming next week. We talk all things occult, fortune telling and tea! 🧙🏻‍♀️

So, hopefully I’ve convinced you that although you have to do your own tax that a career in history or heritage is a fun and worthwhile pursuit! 🤞

A guide to (almost) every independent bookshop I visited on my solo trip to Edinburgh!

This was my third time in Edinburgh and I didn't want to do all the touristy things again. So, as an avid bookworm, what better way to spend my time and hard earned money than to support independent bookshops?

Shoutout to the indie and secondhand bookshops that I loved but unfortunately forgot to snap a picture of or didn't buy anything from:
- Edinburgh Community Bookshop @edinburghcommunitybookshop
- Main Point Books @mainpointbooks
- Edinburgh Books @edinburghbooks
- McNaughtan's Bookshop @mcnbooks
- Armchair Books @armchairbooksedinburgh
- Amnesty Bookshop @amnestybookshopedinburgh
- The Edinburgh Bookshop @theedinburghbookshop

Maps-style concept was inspired by @moonsol.design. Saw their tutorial on how to make this style of post for Stories qmonths ago and am glad I've finally got the chance to make one for a post!

Thank you for staying,
M. D. Morgan (they/them)

The Radical Justice tour is heading back to Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

On 7 November, I’ll be at Assembly Roxy as part of Edinburgh’s Radical Book Fair, organised by Lighthouse Bookshop @lighthousebks , for a conversation on effective activism today, with Anthea Lawson @anthealawsonuk , author of How Not to Save the World, Mustafa Ahmed and Annie Gottfried Coheh, and chaired by Sam Gonçalves @sam.lopes.goncalves , author of How Does Change Happen?

What does activism look like when it actually creates tangible change, from one-on-one conversations to large campaigns? That’s what we’ll be exploring.

Swipe for a few moments from my last conversation in Edinburgh, at Lighthouse in March. If you can’t make it in person, there’s an online ticket option too.

📍 Assembly Roxy @assemblyroxy 2 Roxburgh Place, Edinburgh
📅 Saturday, 7 November / 14:30–15:30
🎟️ In-person and online tickets – link in bio

I hope you can join us 💙

Here is your Bookshops Guide to Edinburgh!

I went on a solo trip earlier this month and I intended to go to as many bookshops as I physically can! I did my research, but my contribution is hopefully helping you to plan your Edinburgh visit to bookstores that match your vibe since everything are so unique!

I would also highly recommend a visit to @typewronger for a free edinburgh bookstore map (with a purchase of a book!) This is a part one btw! Part two is coming tomorrow ❤️

Have you been to Edinburgh? What’s your favorite and which one is on your list? I would like to know! 👀

Friends in Scotland! I'll be in Edinburgh on Friday 6th November, with @tice.cin and @maianhvupeterson, to talk about Out There for Safe Spaces: Where We Make the World New, as part of Edinburgh's radical book fair.

Last time I was in Edinburgh, I saw a dog riding a skateboard. It was incredible. This time around will be just as thrilling, I hope.

And then, on Saturday 7th November, I'll be in Mount Florida Books to launch Out There with my friend, and all-round wonderful person, @thischarmingham. I'd love to see you there!
