Hand-painted silk artist Joy Light is opening her space on Park Street in Ashland — shared with photography, collage and video artist Dave Leibowitz — to display her silk garments and show some of her painting processes to visitors. While Light hasn’t officially decided on what she’s doing for the studio tour, she is looking to establish a pop-up event for people to participate in a community-made silk piece, she said. Through her business, Joy Hand Painted Silk, the textile designer and painter produces a wide range of silk clothing from ruanas to shawls and scarves to custom order pieces. “I love the quality of color, the combination of ways that light plays on silk and the vibrance of the fresh silk dyes that I use,” Light said. The textile artist’s apparel goes through a rigorous process of designing, hand-drawing, washing, drying and finalizing, and Light is excited to display her work during the studio tour and connect with other creatives. "It’s fun to have a bunch of artists together, and something I look forward to is hanging out with colleagues,” Light said. Leibowitz will be exhibiting hand-made, 24-karat gold leaf photographic images through a 19th-century process he learned during the pandemic. #wrapyourselfinjoy #joyhandpaintedsilk #joysilk #joyflower #silkruana #silkscarf #silkwrap #meettheartist #getdrawnin #ashlandopenstudiotour #openstudiotour #studiotour #artstudio #localartstudio #artiststudio #localartiststudio #ashlandoregon #talentoregon #phoenixoregon #planetjoy
