Build for your brain, not against it. ✨🤝

11 years ago this was a conversation between two people who had no idea what they were doing. I remember Isaac being so stressed he broke out in hives, that was right before we made our first hire.

No investors. No plan. No one to look up to who had our style of neurodivergent brains doing similar things.

It didn’t turn out like we pictured — it’s stranger, it took way longer, and it’s better than the version we thought we wanted.

And the part I didn’t see coming is that the best thing we built wasn’t the company. It’s these people.

So if you’re somewhere near the beginning of something: you’re not late, and you’re not behind. Just do the next small thing, then the one after that. 🤍

What are you building right now? I want to hear it 👇 For real. This isn’t some IG hook thing — I love supporting and celebrating my friends. Like @drock who is executive producing a feature film! And @lisagasparian who is crushing it leading two Chicago cafes. And @alokvmenon touring the world doing an incredible stand up show.

Let’s goooo🤙🏼🤩

Had a good last week in Ohio! Winning Delphos, and then a 3rd in Coldwater! The new fit seems to be paying dividends along with strides I’m trying to make personally!
Having a week at home to rebuild some things and get ready for a great week in Sweden for the @stormluckylarsenmasters
Always, a big thank you to the Davidson family, the Delphos family, and the Linus family for what they do for us that week!

I have ADHD and OCD. Building a multi-million dollar company with @isaacbowen with a brain that will often not sit still and will not stop looping.

Here’s what that actually looks like day to day:

I tell my team when I’m dysregulated. Out loud, in the moment. Not so they’ll manage me — so nobody spends the afternoon wondering if it was them. It never is.

I don’t work well alone. I used to think that meant I lacked discipline. It just means my brain runs better with someone in the room.

Isaac is autistic and doesn’t do deadlines. So we don’t do deadlines. The work still ships — turns out the pressure was never the thing making it good.

And health comes first here. Not as a perk we mention in a job post. As the actual operating principle, because everything else stops working when that layer breaks.

Took me years to feel okay asking for any of it. I thought accommodating myself was the same as being weak at this. It’s the opposite — it’s the only reason I can do the work at all.

If you’re still trying to force your brain into somebody else’s system: you’re allowed to stop.

Hopefully this helps you. 🤙🏼
