This one was special.

@jjworldleague
August 2, 2026
NoGi Finals

At Benson’s second ever @jjworldleague back in August 2025, he and @lilmochila were in the same bracket but on opposite sides.

Benson lost his second match that day and had to work through the consolation side for 3rd place.

But while the bracket kept moving, Benson watched every second of @lilmochila matches.

Not just how he competed, but how he carried himself before each match. Locked in. Focused. Composed.

Nicoli went on to win the entire bracket, and that left a lasting impression on Benson.

Afterward, we made sure to congratulate him on the win, but more importantly, we talked to Benson about the way champions carry themselves before, during, and after competition.

That day became a turning point.

Benson got to see up close what being locked in looks like.

Fast forward to now, and they met in the JJWL NoGi finals a year later.

This one went Benson’s way, but the respect is still the same.

Thank you, Nicoli, for setting such a strong example and giving Benson someone to learn from long before they ever met in a final.

I’m sure next time you’ll come back even sharper.

Hopefully we get to run it back in the finals again. 🥋🙏🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽

S/O to @mateusantunes2025 for supporting Benson and coaching on the sidelines 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽

Private lessons have been picking up momentum! I’ve been enjoying the challenge and the privilege of spending extra time on the mat with these students… I see their growth day in and day out, as humans and as champions. So proud of them all!

Task-oriented games are a science-backed way for kids to develop proprioception, coordination, and body awareness.

Building these qualities early gives young athletes the foundation for performance, skill transfer, and long-term injury prevention. 🥋💪

Benson’s Bracket was STACKED 🔥

He walked in riding an 8-fight win streak, added one more to make it 9, then took a tough loss in his second match. That loss hit him hard. He was quiet, frustrated… in his own head.

We prayed over him and hit him with a little “get over yourself” moment, shout out The Mamba, Kobe.

Then something clicked.
Benson locked back in and won his next two matches by submission.

But the real highlight today wasn’t just Benson, it was Wylie Dean.
This kid continues to blow me away. No jealousy, no ego. Just pure love. He knows his role as big bro, correct when needed, cheer loud, and show up with love.

Right before the match, Wylie told Benson,

“You inspire me with how hard you work.”

What’s more powerful than your older brother saying that?

This weekend gave us plenty to reflect on and even more to work on.
Back to the lab.

Congratulations @lilmochila for getting that Gold! See You Soon 🙌🏽
