POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

3,5 years ago I arrived on this muddy island in the dead of winter for the very first time….

And I will be honest with you, at first I thought, what the f💫 am I doing here! 😅

No one really explained to me the grief you feel when you leave your homeland.
Immigration comes with a unique set of challenges that I would say is not for the faint hearted.
It is not easy leaving behind everything & everyone you know and love.

As the weeks and months passed by though, my heart began to soften to my new home.

I watched as the seasons unfurled before me - experiencing the 4 very definite seasons of the year… something very new to me coming from coastal Cape Town. (I am still trying to accept the reality of Winter here 😂 It’s a work in a progress!)

What has truly softened my heart however, to this wonderfully quirky place, are the people.

I have met the most generous, welcoming, heart-first, fascinating people since arriving here.
I have found a community of women in spaces I am truly passionate about.
I have made friends with people who truly inspire me and who have taught me more about myself.
I have met people from places in the world I would have probably never have met.

I have felt privileged to learn about cultures and people from open, heart-felt discussions.

This year, in particular, I feel more rooted and grounded than ever to our new home. I have felt embraced and welcomed.
And whilst I know my South Africanisms will always stay with me (It’s always ‘now now’ and if at a Braai with us - know that ‘the food being ready’ is never a guarantee!😂)

✨The photos I have shared here are *some* of my highlights from this year (thus far!)✨

I am incredibly grateful to be here with my family. Thank you to everyone who has made us feel so warmly welcomed and embraced.
_
P.s I know this is not everyone’s reality when they move overseas. I hope my post brings awareness to the possibilities that may arise when we recognise each other’s differences not as a threat but rather as a way to learn more about ourselves and the world.
