Trauma leaves an imprint, deep within our bodies. When facing extreme distress, our physical selves react, holding tightly to the weight of those moments.

Because our bodies and souls are so deeply intertwined, true healing means nurturing both.

On October 8, at the World Trade Center in New York City, American Friends of NATAL (AFN) will host its second annual conference, this year in collaboration with the Columbia University PTSD Research and Treatment Program, with sessions dedicated to rolling trauma and its extended effects on family, intimacy and body, and community.

Stress has a way of creating a divide between our minds and bodies, and sometimes we don’t even realize we’re disconnected until we slow down.
Here are some gentle ways we can bridge that gap- a few simple, small movements that help us regulate our nervous systems.
When we give our bodies a moment of attention, we’re giving our minds a path back to balance.

Shared reality means no one is left alone.

Sometimes, the most powerful tool for healing isn’t a textbook- it’s the shared experience. Trauma thrives in isolation. Finding living proof that survival is possible through the eyes of someone who has walked the exact same path changes everything.

This PTSD Awareness Month, and we are listening to the voices of those who have walked through the deepest adversity and emerged to help us navigate our own paths. Voices like Eliaz.

As a veteran and former marksman, Eliaz Dandaker lived in the quiet echo of combat trauma- a generational burden he watched his own father carry in silence. But everything changed when he picked up a pen. Through NATAL’s storytelling project, Eliaz transformed his deepest pain into a powerful tool for advocacy and connection.

Today, he is breaking the silence so the next generation of soldiers doesn’t have to hurt alone.

When we talk about trauma, we realize how easily it can hide in plain sight. By sharing the stories of resilience, we ensure the next generation doesn’t have to wait to find hope.

Can AI replace empathy?
Well, not exactly.

While AI tools are changing the game by detecting early signs of trauma and making mental health support more accessible than ever, it misses a crucial ingredient: human empathy.

Healing requires real connection, relationships built on trust.
By integrating innovative technology with compassionate human care, we can ensure that no one has to walk the path to recovery alone.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on how we can show up for our friends, family, and community.

While we all experience stress as a natural part of life, understanding the transition from helpful energy to the weight of acute stress is vital for our long-term resilience.

By learning to recognize the physical and emotional red flags in those we love, especially in those critical days following a traumatic event, we ensure that none of us has to carry the burden alone.

Save it, Share it, it might help someone you know.

Trauma can make us feel disconnected, but through the practice of trauma-informed yoga, we are finding our way back to our center.
We are learning to inhabit our bodies with compassion and patience, as we are reclaiming our peace and our power.
We aren’t just surviving, we are coming home to ourselves.

We are so proud to partner with Roni Raffeld-Bluth and her powerful podcast, Alumot Krav (“Wives of combat”).

After her husband was severely wounded, Roni realized that while the world hears the stories of the soldiers, the voices of the wives and partners often remain in the shadows.

Through the podcast, we are hearing these stories in the first person- raw, honest, and unfiltered.

By giving a voice to the womennavigating the complex reality of injury and PTSD, we are building a more compassionate community.

We are honored to provide the professional support for this vital mission, ensuring that as these women hold up their families, NATAL is here to hold them.

Join us this Sunday for our special collaborative episode. Link in bio to listen.

Did you know that secondary trauma can mirror the same symptoms as PTSD?
When we witness or support those who have experienced traumatic events, the impact on our own mental health is significant.
