“The mission of the Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Mentorship Program is to inform, empower, and mentor under-served diverse populations with information to prepare them for a successful career in Nurse Anesthesia.”
.

Attending the diversity workshop not only introduced me to several diverse individuals but exposed attendees to program directors and “blueprints” to build the pathway to and through #CRNA

Tag your #Anesthesiologist & #CRNA friends below to show them some love! After all, what good are friends if you can’t give them a tough time every now and then. 😏

Repost from @msethioprincess ・・・
#MyCRNAJourney began in 2012. I was a Biology pre-med student at Baylor University graduating in 2013. 👩🏾‍🔬 I didn’t really have a sense of direction so I didn’t apply myself. I found out about Nurse Anesthesia through some research and it became the goal. .

After graduating from Baylor👩🏾‍🎓, I worked at a pharmaceutical company 👩🏾‍🔬while completing my nursing school pre-reqs. During that time, I had a much needed mindset change. ‼️I realized when it came to school I was very prideful. 👎🏾I knew I was smart💡, but internally, I felt that because I didn’t give my full effort, my poor performance wasn’t a true reflection of my capabilities. In reality I had a lot of self doubt, so I attempted to avoid my own definition of failure. I knew if I wanted to become a CRNA, I needed to make a 180 ↩️and give 💯% in everything. I made a 4.0 in my prereqs and in my accelerated (12 month) 2nd degree BSN program through TxTech. 👩🏾‍🏫 After graduating, I started working in an MSICU in the TMC🏥, went to the Diversity CRNA workshop (a MAJOR 🔑, google it), and obtained my CCRN. .

After all of that, I applied to 3 schools and only got an interview for ONE because my overall GPA (including my Biology degree) wasn’t as competitive (that humbled me real quick😂). However, the one school I got an interview for was UTHealth 🤘🏾 and it was really the top school I wanted to get into (#8 in the country, and tuition is significantly less 💵 than other schools since it’s public) This really was a blessing 🙏🏾because Lord knows I didn’t need to take out anymore loans with already having TWO degrees 🙃😅. Since I knew this interview was my only shot, I literally studied everything about critical care and my specialty. Two weeks later I found out I was accepted! 📝✅ (I couldn’t stop crying😂) .

Now I’m in my 2nd week of being a 1st year SRNA🤗. .

Listen, if God says it is for it, it will happen no matter what adversities you face!🙌🏾 It’s the hurdles you have to take that God is using to prepare you for what’s to come. Remember that through anything, Jesus is ALWAYS with you!
