Thank you so much to @pacificabeauty and @thegentlebarn for the most beautiful day ever!!!!! Animals are so important to me and I know this year I haven’t been as vocal about them because of the immense human suffering these past years but just know that all oppression is related and intersecting!! Veganism is and always will be a POLITICAL PRAXIS, not a consumer checklist. No matter how much the radical language is co-opted. Fighting for animal rights directly coincides with the struggle for human rights and depending on our individual background and privilege, that could look different for everyone. I want to discuss some of the intersections with these issues:
* Animal Agriculture has a >100% turnover rate, with high rates of injury, & preys on undocumented men and women of color, some minors, rife with sexual harassment/assault, low pay, no benefits, et cetera with threat of deportation.
* Animal Agriculture is oligopolized by big business corporations that overtake small family farms & their local communities.
* Animal farm operations operate on such scales that they mostly have no means of safely using/discarding the animal shit, so they store it in pools (called lagoons) that are leached into the ground/water. Some spray it into the air, to the detriment of neighboring communities, mostly of color. See “environmental racism”
* Animal Agriculture, among the primary contributors for climate change & every other environmental degradation, mostly hurts the low-income communities of color on a global scale. Climate refugee populations are on the rise, and we need to stop the cause AND take responsibility of taking care of these people.
* Claiming land for cow grazing is among the top contributors of deforestation and the spread of colonial-capitalism.
* A processed animal product diet is a leading contributor to the top 15 preventable causes of death in the US, cholesterol + cancers being most prominent.
* Animal agriculture, being based on a monoculture model of animal life, promotes hyper evolution of super-resistant bacteria and viruses that kill humans like 1918 flu, swine flu, avian flu, “Mad Cow,” Covid-19
Human liberation 🤝 animal liberation! 💖💕
