Had a really engaging facilitation session with @hyprep_ogonicleanup on environmental storytelling and the power of visuals.

Sometimes, a photograph can say what a report cannot. A single image can capture the condition of a community, the progress of a restoration project, the resilience of a people or even the small signs of change that may be difficult to explain with words.

And in places where years of environmental degradation have created a sense of hopelessness, the right stories can help people see that change is possible. Storytelling can document the problem, but it can also document progress, restore dignity and create hope.

I had the opportunity to facilitate a training for HYPREP field officers, focusing on practical ways to capture stories on the go. We explored how to observe what is happening around us, take meaningful photographs, capture useful videos and turn everyday field activities into compelling photo stories.

It was not just about taking good pictures. It was about understanding what the picture is saying, whose story we are telling and why that story matters.

From a restoration site to a community meeting, from the people doing the work to the communities experiencing the change, every frame can become part of a bigger story about Ogoniland.

I enjoyed sharing some of the storytelling techniques I have picked up from years of documenting communities and environmental issues across the Niger Delta.

Sometimes, you do not need a thousand words. You just need to capture the right moment.

COLORED CONVERSATIONS WAS MORE THAN A CONVERSATION… IT WAS A JOURNEY OF HEALING 🎨

Our Colored Conversations was beyond awesome. It was deep, relevant, and incredibly intimate.

It brought together people from different backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life, creating a safe space where thoughts, emotions, stories, and even pain could be expressed, transformed, and painted into something meaningful. Inspired by the beautiful vision of @rootedrising1 and the idea of painting the change we want to see, every voice became a colour, every story became a brushstroke, and every experience added beauty to the bigger picture.

Our participants came with burdens, and they left pieces of those burdens behind.

We did not come to teach. We came to listen. We came to understand. We came to learn. And the amazing people who shared their stories, emotions, and experiences completely transformed us.

To our hosts and founders of this initiative, @mizcjay & @diolutobe , we say a heartfelt thank you. This was born out of necessity, and we believe the impact will continue to grow.

To our incredible speakers who showed vulnerability, courage, and authenticity; @phchurchgirl @gift_meelubari @hon.atosemi @inspirationwithlinda @doubrah_samuel @serenafrancis.h @eera_o , thank you for bringing your voices, your stories, and your hearts into this space.

To our coordinators @nancywritess and all our amazing volunteers, thank you for making this possible. This is only the beginning, but the process has started, and together we will continue creating spaces where people can become healed, heard, and whole.

Last week, @actionaidnigeria Nigeria, @gada_nigeria, and other organizations were at the forefront of advocacy and action in commemoration of Climate Action Week.

I spoke in a series of webinars that were realistic, unscripted, thought-provoking, and impactful. The conversations were honest, reflecting the realities we face while exploring possible pathways toward a more sustainable and just future.

We may not be where we desire to be yet, but as we continue to share ideas, challenge existing approaches, and rethink our understanding of development, I believe we will get closer.

Hope is not lost. We simply need to #RethinkDevelopment.

The Niger Delta is more than a region; it is a unique world of rivers, creeks, mangroves, forests and rich cultural heritage.

With 9 states, 185 LGAs, over 40 ethnic groups, more than 100 languages and thousands of communities, it stands as one of the most diverse and resource-rich regions in Africa.

Yet, beneath its natural beauty is a history marked by deep struggles. For decades, the people of the Niger Delta have experienced the effects of environmental degradation, oil pollution, loss of traditional livelihoods and the social challenges that came with resource extraction.

But the story of the Niger Delta is not only a story of hardship.

It is a story of resilience, courage and hope.

It is a story of a people with strong cultural roots, powerful voices and an unbreakable spirit. A people determined to protect their heritage, restore their environment and create a better future for generations yet unborn.

The Niger Delta is not defined by its challenges. It is defined by the strength of its people, the richness of its culture and the endless possibilities that lie ahead.

Since it’s Thursday, let’s throw it back a little to June 2026 when @lincgreen_ organized the “Look Beyond Oil” program to mark World Environment Day.

Environmental enthusiasts from all ages, especially the younger generation, came together to discuss on the impacts of oil exploration, not just on the environment but in the lives of the people.

@bryterbrandtv was there

We won't stop campaigning for the clean-up of the Niger Delta until we see the change we are fighting for.

Going to 2 years now since the first visible gas eruption from Bille soil, we have raised alarm to the fact that Bille is a ticking time bomb, and if nothing is done now before the dry season, we may be counting casualties in the most gruesome manner.

In our last visit, we noticed visible gas fumes coming out from people's homes, balcony and sidewalks; as well as the increasingly visible water bubblings all around the city.

This is not a matter of URGENCY as we need to wake up and have little value for human life.

Our interaction with @yetunde_gold at “The Land That Raised Us” conference of Niger Delta young people in Abuja was beyond inspiring; it was a deeply meaningful and reflective experience.

She shared powerful insights, wisdom, and encouragement with us, but what stood out the most was her genuine passion for seeing young people in the Climate / Environmental justice space to succeed and become impactful within their communities.

The moment she said, “It is our civic responsibility,” resonated deeply with us. It was a reminder that leadership, advocacy, and community development are not just choices we make, but responsibilities we carry as citizens committed to building a better society.

That session was more than a conversation; it was a powerful reminder of the role we all have to play in shaping the future we desire.

A truly remarkable and impactful session.

Our engagement in Ozoro began with conversations, sitting with community leaders, sharing why we are documenting this journey, and learning from those who understand the depth of the Aluedo Festival.

Beyond what is seen during the celebration are layers of history, beliefs, myths, memories, and interpretations that shape how people experience the festival.

As our documentary takes shape, we are exploring the different sides of Aluedo — the traditions behind it, the stories passed down through generations, the perceptions surrounding it, and the conversations that matter today.

At the heart of this journey is a deeper question: how do we preserve cultural heritage while ensuring that girls and young women are safe, respected, and protected from every form of violence during cultural gatherings?

The conversations have started.
The stories are unfolding.
The documentary is coming.
