Almost 60, 40+ years of yoga, over 30+ years teaching, 30+ yrs with a master’s in nutrition, and two hip replacements. Here’s some of what I actually do every day for longevity and why. 👇
WATER, THEN SUNLIGHT. After a night without fluids, I rehydrate first. Morning light helps set your circadian rhythm, which influences sleep and stress hormones.
MOBILITY, THEN A LITTLE JUMPING. Daily movement keeps joints moving well, and impact like jumping is one of the signals bones respond to by maintaining density. It might look silly but it works :)
REAL FOOD, IN A WINDOW THAT WORKS FOR ME. Diets high in processed food are linked to worse health outcomes, and single-ingredient foods are an easy way to steer clear. The research on specific eating windows is mixed, so choose one you can keep. Focus on lean proteins healthy carbs/veges and good fats
MOVE AFTER MEALS. A short walk, calf raises, or air squats can help blunt the blood sugar rise after eating. Your calf muscles, especially the soleus, use glucose when they’re working.
STRENGTH TRAIN 3X A WEEK. It supports muscle, bone density, metabolism, and blood sugar control. Make sure to add weights!
YOGA, STRETCHING, OR MEDITATION DAILY. Research supports huge benefits for stress and anxiety.
Bonus: I take supplements and peps that support my immune system and longevity
(*Check with your doctor or physical therapist before adding jumping or new mobility work, especially after a joint replacement.)
