Part 1 of the Winter Book Festival captured by the incredible @photobyjono_

Words can’t describe how happy I am that an idea I had wanted to do since joining Booktok actually came to fruition. This year has been one with many firsts - first book event, first arc, first film event, first meet ups with book besties and now the first year of the Winter Book Festival.

Thank you to the amazing authors @itsbusayo_xo @jaswritesstuff @justmarvewrites who joined me on stage to discuss their debut mystery/thriller, romance and fantasy books that all hold such a special place in my heart, as well as their journeys with trad publication, I had so much fun getting to talk about their wonderful books!

It was a jam packed day and the time went too fast (quickly everyone let’s vote to just make it a 24hr long event lol) but it was one filled with cookie decorating, candle painting, a book swap, a game of book bingo hosted by @cecez_libraryy and @ellisbonet as well as fun raffle ticket draws for @yknailed.it gorgeous custom press on nails and bookish prezzies hosted by my Shayla’s @amalisreading_ and @siennaa.reads

All in all it was a dreamy day surrounded by the best people and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my friends & family who helped plan, prep, set up and pack away 🫂✨

Same time next year guys?!

Arc buddy read with @lindee_reads 🥰

This book is told via multiple POVs across a span of years, due to this it took a while to get into it. Set in between Nigeria, America and London we follow Maggie, Benjamin, the Kinsmen. This story is about family lineage, how one decision can change the trajectory not only of your life but of those who come after you.

The author done a really good job of weaving together the family tree (even if it was a little bit hard to envision - adding an actual family tree would be good but I guess that might spoil some of the storyline!) the incidents that led to Maggie making the decisions she did and also touching on mental illness and the impact on family, friends and those you work with.

Benjamin was actually a crook lol. He really was something and at times I was rooting for him to do the right thing - alas, he disappointed and disappeared.

I did feel the book was a tad long and the chapters were way too long. But it was a good read, it definitely could have wrapped up earlier and not going to lie the ending? What was that!! I was expecting more from all the buildup. It definitely left me and my buddy thinking? What just happened. It unfortunately felt rushed and crammed.

This will be released on Aug 5th😄

In collaboration with @penguinfigtree, we gathered a room full of book lovers to hear Leila in conversation with the brilliant Jendella Benson (@jendella ), exploring Black girlhood, growth, and the soul of storytelling.

Yesterday, @dopereaders.club welcomed the acclaimed author Leila Mottley (author of Nightcrawling - Oprah’s book club pick!)
Leila spoke candidly about her writing processes, her work as a doula, her experiences of girlhood and of course, the upcoming release of her sophomore novel, The Girls Who Grew Big - out this summer. I loved hearing Leila speak, she vibed perfectly with @jendella and it really was a free-flowing, intimate and warm conversation. I always love going to literary events and specifically hearing authors speak, but this felt like one I truly needed to be at, as I’ve been feeling a little ✨uninspired✨ . By the end of the evening, my mind was buzzing and I felt lifted. There’s something about being in a room full of book lovers that recharges your batteries and gets the creative juices that were stuck, flowing again. ❤️‍🔥
