I share this story every year, around that day, April 15th. It’s hard to believe it’s already been four years.

Four years ago I was driving into Dallas with Lindsey and my parents for a friend’s wedding. We were all pretty hungry so we stopped for lunch and grabbed a table.

Shortly after we sat down a woman came up to our table with something in her hand and asked me how old I was. I told her I was 23. She had tears in her eyes, then said this, “That's close enough. Today, April 15th, would have been my son, Nick's 25th birthday but he died when he was very young. Every year on Nick's birthday I find a young man that is about as old as Nick would've been and I give him a gift. I've been thinking of Nick and praying for you all morning. I love you and your family, this is for you!" Our whole table was in tears. She gave me this card that I took a picture of and 25 dollars, one for each year of what would've been Nick's life.

After taking in what had happened for a moment I went to the woman's table and told her what I do, that there is no way I'll ever be able to explain what her love, generosity, and tender-heartedness in the middle of her deepest pain had meant to me. I told her I'd be thinking of her forever on this date and be praying for her and her family. That woman is @corischmidt and we still keep in touch to this day. Happy 29th birthday, Nick! What a family, what a GOD.

Sometimes Jesus just shows off. That's one of those true God moments in my life. On a difficult day, in weakness, Corinna beautifully demonstrated the love of Jesus! What an unbelievable display of Jesus drawing near to the brokenhearted. Things happen in our lives that we don't understand, that we may never understand, but He is good. He knows what He is doing with His children. His love and compassion never cease to amaze me. Don't miss the miracles in your day to day. Even the smallest acts of love move our hearts in the biggest ways. I love Corinna and Steve. I can't wait to meet Nick. He changed my life through the lives of his loving, faithful parents.

God grows gardens where desert used to thrive. He’s making a way. Even when you don’t see it. He’s still making a way.

Happy Easter everyone! The tomb is empty so that you don’t have to be. You are fully known and fully loved by a Savior who willingly died in your place and rose in victory over your sin.

He is risen. He is alive! Jesus is King.

Yesterday I had so many questions about relationships and dating. Here are some thoughts.

Singleness is not a storm, it’s a season. It’s that time of the year where those of you in a season of singleness are painfully aware of it. Everyone is either asking you about your relationship status (or lack thereof) and posting an obsessive amount about a relationship of their own. It feels like the rest of the world is insensitive to the fact that you are struggling with singleness. Can I talk to the person who is struggling for a moment? Be a great steward of singleness. Wait. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s worth it. Seasons of waiting are the training grounds of becoming. Becoming the person that means it when they say, “I do.” Becoming someone who doesn’t leave when things get hard but is committed to being a stayer. Waiting is not a punishment, it is a process. The only thing more difficult than waiting on God is wishing that you had. Don’t over-romanticize relationships. If you only think of the benefits but ignore the hardships then you’re setting yourself up to fail. There is nothing wrong with desiring a relationship with someone. There is something wrong with idolizing it. Prioritize Him above all. Wait for someone who loves Jesus more than they love you. Pray for the person you hope God blesses you with. Focus on becoming the person God will bless someone else with, and glorify Him together. Fall in love with Jesus above any and everything, every person, and every opportunity. Only Jesus can fully satisfy with His perfect unfailing love.

It’s also worth noting that nobody lacks anything in Christ. Nothing. Single or married, if you’re in Christ, you’re whole. Singleness isn’t a disease and a relationship isn’t a cure.

Happy Birthday to my beautiful bride! Everyone who has the pleasure of knowing you and loving you is better because of the joy, love, and encouragement you bring to our lives. You are a strong independent woman, who don’t need no man, but I’m thanking the GOOD LORD that He brought you to me! I love you so much it hurts.

What if we committed to intentionally taking steps to LOVE BETTER when it comes to God, ourselves, and others? We had an amazing time with the @anniefdowns and @jpokluda learning what this looks like and literally seeing them live it out right in front of us. We couldn’t have imagined a better way to kick off a new year and decade! Together, with 65,000 others at @passion268 we worshipped the King of Kings by thanking God for what He has done in years past and praised Him in anticipation for what He is going to do in the the future! Here are some key prayers and goals for 2020 and beyond.

1. Pursue God’s will for our lives instead of chasing our own.

2. Trust His plan for our lives and don’t rely on our own.

3. Walk the path He prepares for us instead of going off on our own.

4. Let God make things flow instead of forcing things on our own.

I’m not sure what the last year or decade looked like for you, but I believe God wants to do a new thing. If you want to grab hold of everything that God wants to do in the future, you have to let go of some things that have held you back in the past. I believe He wants to make a way in the wilderness and place streams in the desert of your life.

The other week we were with some friends, just hanging out. We were about to go get lunch and the ladies were getting ready. One of the guys caught me staring at my bride and said, “Wow. You can’t take your eyes off of her, what are you thinking about?” I couldn’t even hold back my emotions. I just blurted it out and said, “You guys ever look at your wife and think, “She is just so blessed to be with me?”
