Prepamdemic times, Roffaswing dancers crowdfunded the transcription of Jimmie Luncefords ‘Stricty Instrumental’ as part of The Big Band Revival of @lindyfocus.

The song inspired @aboutwout to create the ‘Roffa Ramble’, a choreo for the local community.

Fast forward to 2026, it finally premiered at @harbourhoprotterdam!

we do love our scene 😍

Full routine vid is up on the @lindyfocus YouTube channel (🔗in bio ⬆️)!

A Lindy hop duet danced live to only one instrument could have felt like a risk… but it was such a wonderful collaboration not only with Bryan but with @i.am.timchristopher who played LIVE for us! We had no rehearsal time with Tim before Focus - he’s just that magical. 🤩

Thank you, Bryan, for being down to dive into this vision with me, and thank you, Tim, for bringing it to life on the keys! I’ll treasure this piece forever. Can’t wait for the next one ❤️

New core memory unlocked. Late night comps hit different.

The only way to overcome the exhaustion of a post-2am contest when you have been dancing all day (and are crazy dehydrated and haven’t eaten in hours because you’re having way too much fun and forgot… #adhd) is pure adrenaline.

Luckily, the crowd at @lindyfocus is like no other and gave us the energy we needed. The video can’t capture the pure insanity of the room, but we probably lost some hearing during (and after) the contest. Absolutely worth it ❤️

Shoutout to @jonybones13 for the extra encouragement 😉

Reblog via @thecharmingdancer.

I could've responded to the OP's post on TikTok in the comments section with a threaded comment, BUT the question, as scholar Patricia Cohen asks, is rather, "Where's the jazz?" The richer, rooted forms of jazz dance includes a multitude of "social and kinetic elements derived from West African dance and the African American vernacular."
Music educator @jarrodrichey wrote this brilliant blog post in 2023 on how we can mature our musical tastes beyond pop music, and as a dance history fan, what he wrote applies justly to jazz dance. Here in the Philippines, NUVO-style comps don't exist due to economic constraints and the protection of children's innocence. So, those forms of jazz dance - which foster bayanhinan, the Filipino equivalent of the African Cultural Values of humanity/ brotherhood, communal/individualistic value, and the importance of ritual and kinship - thrive the best here.
I think the better people (and especially many Western youths competing right now, who'd OFTEN learn very little about jazz dance history) understand the jazz dance forms before our own time (myself quoting CS Lewis) - like the Lindy Hop and the Charleston - the better they'd look at the trick-laden "blind spots" of the UDA and youth dance comp
"jazz" routines with more critical eyes. Just my 5 PHP.
