@lingobk (27 Greenpoint Ave.) is closing after three and a half years in the neighborhood.

The restaurant shared the announcement on Instagram, with the last day of service scheduled for Sunday, October 25.

Greenpointers reached out for additional details and were told the following by owner Misako Hsu:

“We’ve made the decision to close Lingo as we prepare for an exciting new chapter.

Since I first moved to New York, I’ve had a dream of creating a Japanese-inspired all-day café and food counter, and after many years, I finally feel that the timing is right to bring that vision to life.

While Lingo is coming to an end, we’re hoping to reopen in the same space this coming April with a completely new concept: a Japanese-inspired all-day café and food counter.

This new concept will be a more personal reflection of my vision, with a stronger focus on the neighborhood and everyday dining. I truly love Greenpoint and the community here, and I want to create a warm, welcoming place that feels like a natural part of our neighbors’ daily lives.

I’m so grateful for all the support Lingo has received over the years, and I’m excited to continue being part of this wonderful neighborhood in a new way.”

In 2022, the restaurant dealt with construction challenges which pushed back the intended opening date.

Husband-and-wife team Misako and Robert Hsu hired Chef Emily Yuen to run Lingo’s kitchen, and in a short time, the restaurant earned acclaim and recognition from the Michelin Guide.

In the years since Lingo opened in 2023, several complementary restaurants have taken root on the block, creating what some have dubbed Greenpoint’s “Restaurant Row.”

Greenpoint’s Japanese dining scene in particular has also strengthened, as places like @50_norman continue to expand their food offerings.

Just saw the news that @lingobk is closing next Sunday🙁 i’m so glad I finally checked it out earlier this month and tried their sandos that are offered on their brunch menu.

The miso black cod was so flaky, I enjoyed it a lot! The chashu was also very tender. So hard to decide which sando I like more🤤 Nevertheless, the fries you get with your sandos stole the show🤗

A quick weekend trip to New York to celebrate my beautiful cousin’s wedding 💍🥰 Congrats, D+E! 👏👏

On this trip, I got to spend an amazing time with my parents sans kids. A weekend I’ll cherish for a lifetime. 🥲😍 Thanks to the hubs for holding down the fort back home. You are the bestest!

Also, thanks to friends and fam for the amazing food recs! Here are some I want to share with y’all:

📍 @friendofafarmeruws - Exceptional farm to table brunch. One of my favorite meals!
📍 @cotekoreansteakhouse - Need I say more? Had to treat my parents to experience Cote. 🥩 My mom was a fan of the carefully prepared banchan. She kept saying how well it’s seasoned and tastes like food your grandma would prepare (in the best way possible).
📍 @lingobk - a quick bite before the wedding that fueled us. Miso cod sando and mushroom toast were 💣

been meaning to check out lingo for a while now so happy we did! decided to split two sandos which was actually much more filling than I thought it would be. the shoestring fries here are also freaking delicious and remind me of mcdonald’s (which is really my favorite fry) but healthier. between the two sandos we got I did like the clt better flavorwise. texturewise the miso cod was definitely my favorite since the cod is so tender everything just melts together in one bite. the only thing for me is the miso is a bit salty for me. would come back to try out more of their menu :)

Eating Japanese Pancakes in NYC is becoming a hobby atp. 📍 @lingobk 🥞

The miso made everything marvelous. I thought I would love the apple praline vibe more, but the miso stole my heart of the pancakes. And to think, even with the miso in both, we just had two completely different flavor profiles between the Miso Black Cod Sando + the Apple Tart Tatin Pancakes.

We watched other tables get bites that looked to delectable to pass up, but we could barely finish our own meal. That’s okay, because we will be making another @resy for more 🍽️
