Jimmy Muhindo never became the professional cyclist he dreamed of becoming. But what he became may matter even more. Growing up in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jimmy faced challenges few aspiring cyclists could imagine. As a teenager, he traveled to Rwanda and trained at the Africa Rising Cycling Center, where he was given an opportunity to learn, develop and see what cycling could make possible. Today, Jimmy is paying that opportunity forward. Through Goma Cycling Club, he is investing what he learned into the next generation, helping young people get on bikes, giving them a community where they belong and, importantly, encouraging them to stay in school. Seeing young girls becoming part of that cycling community is another sign of how far that original investment can reach. **This is what the impact of fundraising can look like.** It isn't only about helping someone ride a bike or enter a race. It's about creating opportunities that can continue for years. Riders who once benefited from training, mentorship and resources are becoming coaches, mentors, organizers and leaders who are now creating opportunities in their own communities. That's why we **Pedal for a Purpose** at the Good Dirt Ride. Funds raised through the Good Dirt Ride benefit **OCMTBA, the Orange County Mountain Bike Association**, supporting trail stewardship, advocacy, education and access here in Orange County, and **Team Africa Rising**, helping create cycling opportunities and develop riders, coaches and leaders across Africa. ๐Ÿšต **Good Dirt Ride 2026** ๐Ÿ“… **October 24, 2026** ๐Ÿ“ **Rancho Santa Margarita, California** ๐Ÿšฒ **10, 15, 25 & 50-mile routes** Jimmy's story is much bigger than we can fit into one post. **Check your latest Team Africa Rising email to read Kimberly's full story about Jimmy, Goma Cycling Club and why this is the legacy of the work.** Ride.
