10 years since Standing Rock ❤️‍🔥

Some events, some moments, you can immediately feel in your very core that this is historical. This truly will mean something. One could feel at the very beginning of that fight, that this is historical. This will mean something and it happens during our lifetime.

Today, 10 years since I handed a small bottle of water from my hood to chairman of Standing Rock and yoiked the water.

,Yesterday the Truth Commission for the Sámi people in Sweden handed over their final report to Swedish government. Those testimonies and results documented is just so epic. I am glad to be alive at this very moment because no matter what the government will or won’t do, it still means a great deal. Like Standing Rock. I am glad my indigenous sisters @mavismantila and @linseyschad along with @jeffschadimagery took me there.
When colonialism feels overwhelming, let’s remember these key moments.
Though it sometimes seems that time goes by without any change in sight, let’s keep in mind that we can’t see the whole picture just yet. Our ancestors would. Our great grandchildren will.
We are still here.

PS.
Swedish radio @p3dokumentar made a documentary about Standing Rock, highlighting its been 10 years now. they stopped by my house to hear my thoughts. Available on sr.se 📻

📚 happy #nationalreadabookday

i consider myself a reader but haven’t read a book in ages
my brain has had a hard time settling this year
lately i’ve opened actual books again and it feels fucking glorious
an act of resistance
why? because books are being destroyed along with everything else and while reading you can (re)turn to yourself and see thru what our society is trying so desperately to get us to numb ~ FEELINGS
deep, critical, inner ones needing to be regulated and creatively expressed❤️

in honor of my grandfather’s birthday today🎈

Richard Roy Walsten 1925-2001

during world war 2 he served as a marine aviation mechanic
according to him, he was really good at the job
so good that he got to go along on some of the bombing missions

he told me to never ever join the marines
i have an old letter of his to his friend Jack telling him to never join either

these are the types of aircraft he worked on and despite how i feel about war machines i am utterly fascinated by our human history

thank you to @cafmn and @holmanstable for hosting this event
the step back in time was priceless
