Our Creative Reuse Initiative with @longislandartsalliance, in action! ♻️🦪

These beautiful works of art were created using Toasted Oysters shells, made by @lisastancati’s students at William A. Shine Great Neck South High School. Truly talented artists, instructed by a talented artist herself. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing this with us!

If you’re a local artist, art instructor, school, library, museum, etc. who could use oyster shells for your projects, apply at the link in our bio. 🦪

A🤍heartfelt thank you to everyone who braved the torrential rain to come out and celebrate my solo exhibition, Where Light Rests. Your support truly means the world to me.

Despite the weather, we shared such a wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, great conversations, and even had the pleasure of meeting a couple of new people along the way. Those moments made the day incredibly special.

A sincere thank you to the South Bay Art Association @southbayartassociation for sponsoring and hosting the reception, to Sachem Public Library @sachemlibrary for providing such a beautiful space, and to Brewport Coffee @brewport_coffee for helping make the afternoon so welcoming.

And, as always, thank you to my husband, @abarone5 Anthony, and my son @anthonyybarone my biggest supporter and biggest fan. ❤️

To everyone who came, reached out with kind words, or cheered me on from afar—thank you. I am truly grateful.

My article about some amazing student art exhibitions appears of page 50 of the latest issue of the @fireislandnews

Three recent exhibits feature local high school students spanned a wide range of media, demonstrating impressive creativity, imagination, and feeling.

The Bay Area Friends of the Fine Arts’s Juried Invitational High School Student Exhibition featured artists from schools across the county. In addition to honors presented in each medium, scholarships and financial awards were donated by local philanthropists Oliva and Harlan Fischer, the family of artist Jackie Palmer, and two art associations, Bell Street Artists and Women Sharing Art. Painter Lisa Stanko, one of the three jurors for the show, said “Surrounded by so much talent, the task was a challenge.”

The Islip Arts Council hosted the “I am…/ Youth Empowerment Project,” highlighting work by Mr. Candido Crespo’s high school students and members of the Reed Middle School Art Club run by Ms. Kim Harris (a contributor to this publication). Students created self portraits using a mix of realism and symbolism, making the works as varied as the students' individualism, artistry and imagination. The gallery was packed for the reception, and as Harris said, “Watching the students and their families swell with pride as they view their artwork on professional display remains the highlight of my year.”

Then, at South Bay Artist Association (SBAA)’s 30th Annual Nita Elder Scholarship Exhibit, an intimate concentration of artistic talent and creativity was on display. The show, named for one of the association's founders, ran concurrent with SBAA’s annual member show over Memorial Day weekend. Nora Franzese, an SBAA trustee and co-chair of the exhibition, was highly impressed by the student’s efforts, “I find it humbling to see the work of these young artists and it is a reminder of how important it is to support our students today as Nita Elder had over thirty years ago.”
