Stretching & some questionable attempts at tip toe squats 😂

I’ve noticed my ankle stability isn’t always the best, especially when I’m trying to balance or control movements like this. So lately I’ve been paying a little more attention to ankle strength, mobility & stability.

Clearly still some work to do

Some days my body feels completely different.

Today I’m bloated, holding onto extra fluid, and it’s that time of the month.

With lipedema, those hormonal changes can make my legs feel heavier, look fuller, and swell more than usual.

A few years ago, I would’ve changed into long pants.

Today, I’m choosing not to let one day decide what I wear.

One thing I’ve learned is that your body isn’t the same every single day and that’s okay.

Don’t judge your progress based on one day.

Look at the pattern, not the fluctuation. 🤍

10 things I thought were normal… but were actually signs of lipedema

For years, I thought these were simply things I had to accept about my body. I thought I was built differently, that I was just “holding onto weight,” or that I simply needed to try harder.

Looking back, so many things finally make sense after my diagnosis.

1. My lower body was disproportionately larger than my upper body, no matter how much weight I lost.
2. Barely growing hair in areas where I have lipedema
3. Random bruises all the time, and often don’t remember how I got them
4. Knee-high boots never fit. Everyone else could zip theirs up. Mine barely made it past mid-calf..
5. Fat pads around the knees, soft fat deposits above/inside the knees
6. I always had to size up in jeans, my legs needed the extra room, but then I was left with a major gap around my waist
7. My body changed dramatically with hormones, especially around puberty and other hormonal shifts.
8. My legs would feel more swollen or uncomfortable throughout the day, particularly after being active or standing for long periods.
9. I constantly compared my body to other women, wondering why my legs looked so different even when we had similar body weights.
10. Fluid retention which led to sock marks around the ankles

I thought all of this was normal.

I didn’t know there was a name for what I was experiencing. I didn’t know that lipedema could be present for years before someone recognizes it.

Getting my diagnosis didn’t magically change my body but it completely changed the way I understood it.

And that changed everything.

This is exactly why lipedema gets missed.

Not every woman with lipedema has the same shape or severity. Early-stage lipedema can look surprisingly “normal” to most people.

With lipedema, I’ve learned that recovery, consistency and working with my body gets me much further than pushing through.

One of the biggest misconceptions about lipedema is that everyone with it looks the same.

This is what early-stage, well-managed lipedema looks like for me.

Being active, building muscle and taking care of my body hasn’t “cured” my lipedema, but it has helped me manage it.

I’m sharing my journey because if one woman recognizes herself sooner because of these videos, it’s worth it. 💙

Have you ever heard of lipedema before?
