THIS COLD JOY
The @ebb.and.flow.collective.sf annual floatie party with a splash of Dolly Parton.

Um, yes Aaron made a floating cafe so we could have hot coffee as we dip. The cafe has vintage china tea cups, donut holes, the Golden Gate Bridge and a bubble machine. The name of the cafe is Queen of Cups.

Thank you mermaids for such a truly COLD JOY morning.

I love us.

COLD JOY:GRATITUDE
Gratitude is what I feel every time we step into the water together. Cold Joy was never mine alone. It was shaped by your laughter, your courage, your willingness to meet the cold with an open heart.

You, the mermaids, turned a quiet ritual into a shared joy.

Gratitude isn’t surface-level, it’s soulful. It lives deep, beneath words, where presence and connection meet. It shows up in the way we steady each other, pour tea with shaking hands, and share the silence that follows.

Thank you to @fjordfeel in Sausalito for the warmth and welcome. And thank you to @botniaskincare for the juniper hydrosol, the scent of care and renewal.

Gratitude is what holds us when the water lets go.

Thank you Mermaids.

LOVE AFFAIR:WATER
The San Francisco Bay feels like an old love affair, one that keeps surprising me. Each morning she shimmers, dressed in silver light, glamorous without trying. Sometimes she is fierce, all muscle and might, reminding me of her depth and power. Other times she is soft, a veil of fog slipping across the water, intimate and secretive. I never tire of her moods. To slip into the cold embrace is to taste joy in its purest form, what I call cold joy. The Bay holds me, humbles me, dazzles me. I’m in love. LOVE. LIFE.

@ebb.and.flow.collective.sf love story for my dearest @outcroplandscape who was willing at the beginning to partner in the nurturing of this joyful community. I adore you @lhoogheem 🫧
And this community. Heart centered and joyful.

We often talk of saving the planet, but the truth is that we must do these things to save ourselves.
- David Attenborough, A Life on Our Planet: My Witness Statement and a Vision for the Future

This morning we gathered at the beach, our usual time. 7am. But today we had the leadership team from @5gyres with us, to not only get in the water but to share with us the realities of plastic in our waterways and what we can do to make a shift.

We at @ebb.and.flow.collective.sf love our cove and understand that is our responsibility to care for this little corner of the world. The water nurtures and cares for us, we must do the same for her. We don’t just get in the water, we are actively caring for it.

My takeaways
1. We are over washing our clothing/bedding etc. There is massive amounts of plastic sloughing during a wash. WASH LESS AND FIND FILTERS FOR YOUR WASHING MACHINES (I’ll try and find a link)

2. Microbeads are used as exfoliants and scrubbing agents in a variety of personal care
products, such as soap, facial scrubs, body washes, and toothpaste, as well as in cleaning supplies. Microbeads are also found in hand sanitizers and leave-on cosmetics, including
mascara, foundation, face powders, and lipstick. BE SURE TO READ THE LABELS.

3. Single use plastic is chocking our ecosystems. REALLY PAUSE BEFORE PURCHASING THINGS IN SINGLE USE PLASTIC CONTAINERS. For example the top of your to go coffee cup…insist that your coffee shop get compostable tops or better yet bring your own mug ☕️

@5gyres (please follow)

“Plastic pollution is found in every corner of the globe, contaminating the environment, entangling countless marine and land animals, threatening communities, and contributing to the climate crisis. As plastic production continues to increase, existing plastic breaks up into micro- and nanoplastics that permeate ecosystems, wildlife, and even our own bodies. We must act now to reduce the harm of plastic pollution on people and the planet.“

I hope you will go out and let stories, that is life, happen to you, and that you will work with these stories... water them with your blood and tears and your laughter till they bloom, till you yourself burst into bloom.
