I am still a little in disbelief that God opened this door.

I am SO grateful to get to work alongside Gabriela and her incredible team at @lisbonprojectassociation

What they’re doing in Lisbon is so much bigger than one program or one organization. They are bringing people together across a city to welcome immigrants and refugees and helping them build new lives — learning English and Portuguese, finding jobs, building community, and so much more.

And the collaboration, the amount of resources they pool together for their Beloved. YOU GUYS. I have never seen collaboration on this scale before.

They are galvanizing a city around the idea that we can love our neighbors well and work together for the good of the people who call Lisbon home. Churches, organizations, businesses, volunteers, and so many others are coming together in ways that are genuinely incredible to see.

I really believe God is doing something special in Portugal, and getting to play even a small part in helping The Lisbon Project tell its story and connect with the people who want to be part of this work is such a gift.

I’m so, so grateful.

At this celebratory gathering, we spoke with Tito Campos e Matos, Vice-President of the Portuguese Refugee Council @conselho_portugues_refugiados (CPR) about the important work of CPR for the last 34 years, as well as its partner organisations & above all, refugee communities themselves.

It was a day to shine a light on the initiatives making a difference and remind people that a welcoming community is built through participation, solidarity and shared commitment.

We celebrate the achievements, people and communities who turn challenges into new beginnings every day. Because no one builds a future alone.

Meet another member of the Refugee Week Portugal Steering Group: @lisbonprojectassociation 🩵

Since 2017, Lisbon Project has supported more than 8,000 migrants and refugees through a community-based network of over 1,000 volunteers. Their mission is to build a community that integrates and empowers migrants and refugees, with their work spanning four main areas: education, employability, social support and community life.

During Refugee Week 2026, Lisbon Project organised several initiatives focused on support and connection, including a community dinner, an advice space on immigration processes, and a special celebration of World Refugee Day, in partnership with @conselho_portugues_refugiados @jrsportugal @crescer_org and Vitae, featuring live music, food and local producers.

These activities created opportunities to strengthen support networks, share information and celebrate the communities at the heart of this work.

Lisbon Project has been a key partner of Refugee Week Portugal since we first started, and we are incredibly grateful to have them as part of the Steering Group ✨

Getting lost on purpose might be my favorite way to meet a city. ✨

Lisbon rewards the wanderer.

Turn down the street that catches your eye. Follow the tiles. Stop for the view you didn’t know was there. Sit in the garden. Notice the art tucked onto a wall. Listen to the conversations spilling out of cafés. Eat the pastel. Definitely eat the pastel. 😉

Some of the best travel stories begin when we leave a little room between the plans.

So, here are a few places to check out along your own journey of getting lost on purpose in Lisbon:

📍 Santa Maria Maior
📍 Jardim Júlio de Castilho
📍 Praça do Comércio
📍 Lisbon Cathedral + Church of Saint Anthony
📍 Praça do Município
📍 Rua Augusta
📍 Pink Street
📍 Mercado da Ribeira / Time Out Market
📍 Santa Justa Lift
📍 Jardim da Torre de Belém
📍 Jardim da Praça do Império
📍 Jardim Vasco da Gama
📍 Pastéis de Belém
📍 Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

Save this for a future Lisbon wander. 🇵🇹

If you like a little whimsy, storytelling, travel, and discovering what waits beyond the itinerary, follow along. I’m getting ready to wander a whole lot more. ✈️

A little whim. A little wisdom. A lot of life in between. 🫶

On World Refugee Day we had the honour of speaking to Gabriela Faria, the founder of the @lisbonprojectassociation
acknowledging the continuous courage, strength and resilience of millions forced to leave their homes and well as celebrating and recognising the organisations, partners and community members working every day to protect human rights and welcome people with dignity, care and respect.

The joy we shared was more than a celebration, it showed the power of community and reminded us that we all have a role in creating places where everyone feels safe, valued and at home.

Today, we’re celebrating a new school year and helping make the start a little brighter for migrant and refugee families. 💜

Together with Lisbon Project Association , we’re bringing 200+ community members together, with school kits for 100 students, donated consoles for the community space, and a Safer Together masterclass giving parents practical tools to keep their children safer online.

Because every child deserves the tools, confidence and opportunities to start the year strong. 💪📚
