POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Like Fight Club, a good portion of my job is not talking about my job… and this project was that and more, it’s also the first that got me to tap out. Spending over a year mostly undercover around Missouri and the Ozark’s, a small team and I are proud to tell the crazy story of Tonia and her Chimps. The female Joe Exotic, maybe? With the team behind Tiger King we pulled off some impossible filming missions to bring these ‘monkey moms’ and Chimp Crazy to @hbo Aug 18th!

This was a tough NDA.

It feels WILD that I haven't been able to share anything about this project I've been working on for the past 3 years. I'm so excited for people to see this and go on this journey with us.

CHIMP CRAZY premieres on HBO August 18th. 🍌

After visiting my family in Dec/Jan, my life here hasn't been the same. The past few months have been really tough on me. But here are some good moments from March that kept me going and that I'm grateful for. (Yes, I'm late for all of this).

“Lissa Rivera: The Artist and Her Muse” is now open in Philadelphia at the Photography Gallery at the University of the Arts (Terra Hall Building). Congratulations to Lissa and her muse, BJ, both pictured here.
—
Rivera writes: “Taking the first pictures was an emotional experience. I connected with my friend’s vulnerability. I wanted to make sure that the images were not a compromise for either of us, and we engaged in many discussions.”
—
Eventually, Lissa and BJ found themselves falling in love. Now romantic partners, the two are collaborators who have sought to “perform and reshape gender individually and as a couple,” writes Stephen Vider. Rivera relishes the visual pleasure an intimate muse can inspire, as so many male artists have experienced historically.

4 DAYS TO “PATPONG NARCISSUS” SCREENING
So excited to host my 1st directorial debut at Tom of Finland Foundation this coming Friday 20th! Here’s some fun fact about my short film “Patpong Narcissus”:
As the name suggested, my movie is a reference to to James Bidgood’s iconic erotic visual poem "Pink Narcissus”. Bidgood has always been my inspiration for depiction of desire. On a historical note, Pink Narcissus was also released in 1971, the same year as the first gogo boy bar in Bangkok was mentioned in the press. For our screening, I am super honored to have with me my dear friend @lissa_rivera_ - an independent producer/curator/artist. Lissa was a former curator at Museum of Sex and has worked on “James Bidgood:Reveries” exhibition. We will be in conversation about Bidgood’s legacy in relation to my film and more.

This screening is part of Circa, queer history festival presented by The One Institute.

RSVP to attend our screening here:

Henry Hate has been tattooing humans for over thirty years, and during this run has trained six apprentices under him. Now that he’s back in Los Angeles, Hate’s been working with Dinos Chapman of the Chapman Brothers, who has been exploring tattoo as a medium. On Tuesday, together they tattooed Oliver from @autremagazine here in the gallery, an original drawing by @dinos_chapman_studio with guidance and line work by @sirhenryhate and details by Chapman. Collaboration and community are two of the best parts of the art world (alongside discovery & learning), and this was a beautiful display of that!! Thank you to Henry for sharing 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵 as a vessel for this magic to occur, and thank you to everyone who attended the panel that followed! More on that soon.❤️‍🔥

📸 Exploring Identity through "The Silence of Spaces" by Lissa Rivera

Photographer Spotlight: @lissa_rivera_

Lissa Rivera is a talented photographer known for her evocative work that delves into themes of identity, gender, and self-discovery. Her lens captures the beauty in vulnerability and the intricate nuances of human emotions.

🎞️ "The Silence of Spaces" intimately explores the interplay of religious faith, gender, and the body within an isolated religious complex. Formerly a male-only Catholic seminary and evolving through various roles, the space's rich history parallels its layered visuals. Portraits of the artist and partner BJ build on Lissa Rivera's previous work, confronting societal perceptions of femininity, masculinity, and religious imagery's intriguing androgyny.

With a keen eye for detail and a gift for storytelling, Lissa Rivera's work celebrates the diversity of human experiences. Through her lens, we witness the power of self-expression, the beauty of authenticity, and the significance of the spaces we inhabit.
