The Chicago pioneer started DJing at just 12, helped push the art of edits, and went on to deliver ‘French Kiss’, one of the most recognisable records in dance music history. Now, more than five decades into his career, he’s finally touching down in Kuala Lumpur for his first-ever show here. It’s been approximately 3 years since I started @e.venif , a post pandemic love letter to our nightlife scene, which honestly felt quite post apocalyptic in 2022. The idea was simple, I had been a music director for 12 years, what’s the worst that could happen. Gosh, if only I knew. Haha. Being a promoter is a tough job, the fight is daily, arguments with club owners, chasing payments, fighting for autonomy on style, spending all your money in your first year to get somewhere in the game, continuing to spend all your money on normal club standard things like cdj’s and mixers because bars and clubs just don’t give a toss like they used to, navigating our terribly small scene because our country continues to try and sell some dystopian idea that running in the haze, is better than being in a perfectly modulated club that provides a sense of community and respite rather than soot filled lungs, our politicians and town hall, who make tons of money via alcohol tax yet make no allowances for the club scene, no laws to protect us, at all. So here we are, my 10 brilliant residents and I, in the dark of it all, making sure to bring absolute fire to every situation, and hire regional and international acts that do the same. 32 fabulous boys and girls have graced our parties in the last 3 years 🥹 for a tiny self funded collective that struggles most times to make ends meet, that does bring a healthy amount of pride my way. Love is love, music is the answer, sound systems are everything. ✌🏾 Happy approximately 3 year anniversary to us, and everyone who’s made it a point to believe in us, and our terribly simple approach to events. 🕺🏽 Let’s dance! Every Frisson, we work towards culminating a sense of connection that we believe is trivial in the evolution of our fabulous city. The one thing we enjoy is bridging the gap.
