Spearheaded, curated, and produced by a great friend and phenomenal mind, I’ve known for more than 20 years - Tanya Latortue! I’m PROUD to be included in this work as a composer and collaborator for the theme, along with Justin and Tim!
.
Tanya, thank you for having me in mind, then circling the block to still include me when life LIFED and a brother was struggling to get through. It’s such an important perspective of which we haven’t heard enough!
.
Congratulations on this! Much more to come! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
.
EVERYONE! Make it a point to get to PHILADELPHIA, PA and experience this exhibit, these voices, and these perspectives. ❤️💚🖤

REPOST

TILT Institute for the Contemporary Image and Da Vinci Art Alliance present partnering exhibitions of a narrative portrait project called Of Black Wombhood (OBW). The project, led by independent curator/cultural producer Tanya Latortue, features the artwork of photographer Kara Mshinda and sound artist JL Simonson. Using 10 personal narratives as inspiration, OBW explores the interiority of Black womb-bearing people through stories about culture, health, sexuality, identity, and the politicization of the Black body from the past to the present. Join TILT for the opening of the first exhibition on Thursday, March 13th from 6 - 9pm at the Crane Arts Building, 1400 North American Street - Unit 103, Philadelphia, PA 19122. The exhibition at TILT runs through May 31st, followed by a new show at Da Vinci on view from June 5 - 22, 2025.

It was just announced that the excellent Philadelphia Revealed exhibition at @pafacademy has been extended until April 6th. We highly recommended checking it out if you haven’t yet, especially if you’re a Philly history buff. This also reminded us we haven’t properly celebrated our work on The Philadelphia Revealed Podcast!

For the first half of 2024, we led production on the 10 episode documentary podcast series that’s distributed by @whyy. In each episode of the podcast you’ll learn about an object in the Atwater Kent Collection and hear a story inspired by it from a storyteller handpicked by First Person Arts (@firstpersonarts). Some of the featured objects include handcuffs that may have held abolitionist John Brown, a turnstile from the old Veterans Stadium, and a button-covered jacket created by legendary Philly photographer Neil Benson. The series is hosted by FPA Executive Director Jamie Brunson.

We had an incredible production team working on this series: Our lead producer for Philadelphia Revealed was veteran audio journalist Jen Kinney (@jkjenkinney). Jen reported, wrote, and produced 7 episodes of the series. The other 3 episodes were written & produced by Rowhome’s Alex Lewis and John Myers and our 2024 Rowhome Fellow Savannah Collins. We had story editing help from Padmini Raghunath. Mixing and mastering by John Myers and Justin Berger (@little_kingdoms).

The series features original scoring music by the Philly trumpet player and composer Paul Giess (@pgtpt). He had help from Matt Jernigan and the Frankford High School Drum-line.

Check out the exhibition and find the audio series wherever you listen to podcasts!
