I posted this first as a story but it deserves the commentary of a reel:

🐰In speed dating Hetha I had the ideathat a kit would bring out her maternal instincts. I assumed the best successor partner to Forrest would be a boy bunny, and that was erroneous: it proved far more important for Hetha to have a bunny who complemented her energy level as a 4-yr-old. Doe kits are less high energy than bucks (especially among Flemish!) So a doe proved to be the better match!🐰🐰💞💕

My friend Natalie, on whom this particular litter of Steel Flemish was dumped (there are 5!),** is a great reader of bunny body language!😁 It's hard to see in this reel, but I got so engrossed with the process I forgot to video Hetha with other members of the litter: Hetha simply was more relaxed with the female. The higher energy level of this kit buck made Hetha anxious: by contrast, her ears came further forward in curiosity over the doe. Her fur was smoother and her body more relaxed.

Natalie will bring the doe New Years because this particular buck kit, at 11 wks, can't be parted from this particular sibling yet-- he has been boarding with her, and one of the other does needs to be substituted for her before we can have her.

*Natalie shows Flemish Giants in ARBA but as THE bunny person in her local area & also does a bunny therapy program. She is the person people come to when there are rabbits needing good homes. Natalie is very careful placing any rabbits. She loves them all very much.
