BEFORE THE SOUND WENT UP, CHOW LEE LEARNED TO MIX IT HIMSELF | @realreportshow | @thankschow

Hempstead’s own talks Cash Cobain, audio engineering @fullsail , and the work behind sexy drill on The Real Report.

Everybody hears the sound. Few know the work behind it.

Hempstead’s Chow Lee sat down with Tony Yayo and Uncle Murda on The Real Report to talk about his connection with Cash Cobain and how learning audio engineering gave him the tools to record and mix his own music.

He also spoke about working at a cemetery before music took him somewhere else. That’s the part of the story people might miss: Chow wasn’t just finding his voice. He was learning how to shape the sound around it.

From Hempstead to a sound heard across New York, Chow Lee’s journey is another reminder that Long Island artists are helping build the culture.

LONG ISLAND HIP-HOP IS AT WAR WITH ITSELF BUT THIS IS BIGGER THAN ONE FEUD.

The public clash between @onetakecarter and DC3 of @iamstrongisland may be exposing a much deeper divide: the disconnect between the generation that built under the STRONG ISLAND name and the new generation creating its own identity, movements and platforms including LONG MONEY ISLAND.

One generation feels its history, sacrifices and contributions are being overlooked.

The other feels it is being judged before it is supported expected to honor the foundation without being given the freedom to build something different on top of it.

But when does protecting the legacy become blocking the future?

The next generation shouldn’t have to erase Long Island’s history to establish its own identity. But the generation that built the foundation can’t expect the future to remain trapped inside its version of the culture either.

This tension extends beyond two individuals. It affects the artists, platforms, promoters and movements fighting to carry Long Island hip-hop forward.

Can the next generation build on the legacy without being forced to stay inside it?

Can the pioneers receive their proper credit while still making room for what Long Island is becoming?

And ultimately WHO SPEAKS FOR LONG ISLAND NOW: the generation that built the legacy, the generation carrying it forward, or both?

Because if every generation has to fight the one before it just to be recognized, Long Island’s biggest obstacle may not be a lack of talent, motion or opportunity.

It may be the disconnect between its own people.

ARE WE PASSING THE CULTURE FORWARD or BLOCKING THE FUTURE?
