Happy birthday, @kaya_onika
#amsterdam feels like yesterday us holding each other through the chaos, and trying to exist in a world that often tries to make us small.

The audio about being visibly queer so other #queer people feel safe is so you, Kaya. You have always shown up with a courage that creates safety for others even when it costs you a lot.

You walked with me through a time where I genuinely thought I was losing my mind. And you know who’s real when you’re in deep shit and someone shows up anyway. You’ve done that for me in ways I will never forget. You constrain yourself so others can breathe. It’s beautiful, but it’s also something we as #trans people are still learning to balance: how to give without disappearing. I’m still recovering from that period, and writing this makes my eyes sting, but it’s the truth.

Our friendship isn’t always perfect osmosis but there is always willingness. Always intention. Always a choice to make things work. And that kind of friendship is rare.

One thing I want to say publicly today is this:
The work I do, the advocacy, the visibility, the courage is directly inspired by you. I remember once thinking, “I could never do what she’s doing,” because I was hiding, terrified, drowning in my own internalized transphobia. You were out there facing storms and still using your story. My respect for you is profound. And I’ll always look up to you when it comes to how trans women show up for community. Because you truly walk the talk.

You’re not just this radiant goddess; even though you really are so, so beautiful, you’re also someone with a heart that keeps choosing people. And I love #women like that. I celebrate women like that. I love you like that.

So today, for your birthday, I want to ask everyone reading this: Please support Kaya’s Facial Feminization Surgery fundraiser.

I’ll put the link in my story. It’s not about “passing.” It’s about aligning the inside and the outside, about safety, dignity, and the right to exist fully as who we are.

Happy birthday, mo ser.
You deserve softness. You deserve care. You deserve your face to match the soul you’ve always carried so bravely.
