Part two of the epic Euro Summer adventure. There’s nothing more special to me than getting to explore new places with people I love. So grateful for my friends and family who came to celebrate my birthday in Chamonix. To say I feel grateful feels like an understatement and trite, but I mean it from the bottom of my heart.

I wanted to do something exceptionally special for this birthday - the big 5-0. My 40th was spent solo and sick. I had just moved to Colorado after finishing chemo. I didn’t have any friends yet and I just needed to get through it. I was in a rough and honestly scary place in my life and my physical recovery. There were so many unknowns. But turning 50 - I wanted to celebrate!! I’m alive. I’m healthy. And I’m in a completely different chapter of my life.

I’ve heard the acronym for HOPE as Hold On Pain Ends - and celebrating this birthday is the epitome of that. Nothing lasts forever - not the good or the bad. Ride the waves and make the most of this one precious life. It’s not always going to be easy, but it will always be worth it. 💗

I never shared these photos. I did this little shoot with the amazing @monique_pantel while I was in Panama earlier this year. It was more for me than anything, but these photos are so beautiful thanks to Monica. I was struggling hard on that trip with my body and inflammation, but being in that magical place with people I love and working on myself healed me. I left a different person in the simplest ways. Imperceptible to probably anyone but me.

This life isn’t one meant to just work and buy things. I always say that this is life school. My bigger purpose is to heal and experience as much as I can. Working on my inner self - emotionally, spiritually, and physically - will probably never end and I’m good with that. I get to unlock new levels of presence and love with each layer I peel off, and replace with something new. Then, I get to go be in the world - whether it’s where I live or off on some adventure.

Please don’t sell yourself short staying where you are. Uncover, discover and discard what’s holding you back so you can see the world through new eyes.

Thank you to everyone at @livealiveadventures and @sansararesort - for the most beautiful week in Cambutal. Forever grateful and I can’t wait to go back.

Go somewhere new to experience something new. ✨ It doesn’t have to be far from home, it can be in your own mind or body. The Sacred Valley gifted me far more than I could have expected.

This is for you, behavioral/mental health professionals. (And everyone!)

“How do you do it?”
“I don’t know how you show up calf amidst so much chaos!”

This is also my Why, for those who’ve been asking.

Yoga is my burnout medicine and my burnout prevention. It is a unique combination of mind, body, breath and spirit integration.

Through movement (asana) and ancient philosophy based self study (svadyaya), steady and constant change occurs.

Amongst many things, yoga teaches (and I’m paraphrasing) that to be human is to suffer. Through the steady practice, narratives and patterns that cause suffering are revealed. The way administration, systems of oppression, institutional -isms, the industry, the business of it all - they can start to make this active of service feel like HEAVY work. Pure struggle.

Yet through the clarity and release of the practice of yoga, the possibility of reduction of suffering arises.

Teaching yoga brings further opportunity to absorb and practice more deeply. And to hold space for others to discover the same.

Which brings it full circle to the heart of it all: yoga is union. A yoking. And to practice (on and off the mat) in community causes connection. The best medicine out there besides breath. Which also grows and changes.

Shout out to all my fellow 300 hr grads, 200 hr grads, and yogis on day 1 or day 10 million. And to everyone on whatever journey fuels your well being. Whatever mind/body/spirit practice restores your capacity to cause all the inspiration, and all the care.
