My best friend Andy Verhiel walked through the gallery on our opening day celebration. It’s now three weeks later and the last week of the show but I thought by posting this video you would get an idea of the scale of my undertaking. It’s a slow reveal but everyone who’s visited has gained something from the experience. If anything it’s a window into my mind. But, more importantly this exhibition is about the visitor and what they connect with on the journey I’ve created. The gallery is open from Wed to Sunday 11am to 4pm. The last day is next Wednesday April 29th. If you haven’t been I’m planning on being around the gallery for the next couple of days. I will be the gym wearing the black nolevelon shirt.

The exhibition of my artwork at Todmorden Mills is only up for two more weeks, but already I’ve had some amazing moments. Last Saturday was one of the highlights of the exhibition so far. My niece Alicia and nephew Devin joined Kyle and I, to help as Smart Servers behind the bar. When I asked for their support they jumped in immediately. While I really appreciated their help bringing the bar to life, it was their presence at my exhibition, and the presentation afterwards, that was the most important to me, as it showed a side of the life Kyle and I have created, that they weren’t fully aware of before. Devin actually said it best when he posted on our group chat the next day. “Yaa no problem, it was a pleasure helping out. And it was great to see Howard in his element.” Finally I was able to put all the work he’d seen me producing over the last couple of years into context. Kyle and I are very proud watching them both grow into the amazing people they’ve become and spending a Saturday night at the gallery together was yet another wonderful shared experience. I hope you can visit the gallery before the show is over on April 29th. Everyone who’s visited thus far has given me to most beautiful comments, and for that I’m grateful.

Anyone who knows my social media knows that I don’t exactly subscribe to the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words”. But, in this case this image sums up the first, “City Talks on Forest Walks”, held last Saturday April 11th, which was for me, one of the best days of my life.

I write more about this in my latest Blog Post which you can link to in my bio above.

My friends sent me these images from the opening of night light II last evening. You can tell by my gesticulations that Tracey Eve Winton’s questions in our Artist Talk really had me thinking. Today, I’m going to take it easy and digest everything that happened but I feel so lucky to have such amazing people in my life that have supported me through my recent efforts to create nolevelon. The support I’ve received from Canela owners Niko and Sophia has also been so wonderful. I’ve enjoyed bringing the space to life with my artworks but more importantly feel their love and generosity every time I’m there. They’ve opened an amazing new chapter in my life and for that I will be forever grateful.

Our Friday evening night / light event was also Kyle’s birthday. I purchased 60 Portuguese tarts at a local bakery and placed them on large trays to create the “cake”. Kyle loves the tarts so I thought it would be a personalized surprise. Then suddenly I was reminded, only after most of the guests had already departed, that we hadn’t yet brought out the cake. Well let’s just say it’s Sunday today and tarts were part of our breakfast and made it into our breakfast, lunch and dinner yesterday. We have also been handing them out to everyone we can think of but still I suspect the legacy of this birthday will be a couple inches on my waist. @bomdia.to
